Anyone have some experience with this round ? The article made it sound pretty good & I think the author is a real shooter, rather than a type-writer shooter. I've got an older Savage long action that I'd like to do something neat with, even tho it shoots pretty good as it is. You know how that is :D

I have one that is a Ruger mk11 varmint, one of the first ones with a blued action and stainless barrel. I sent it to McGowen barrels and had them rechamber it to 22-6mm a.i. I can push 50 gr. Nolser Bal. Tips around 4300f.p.s. with varget. The gun doesn't shoot as accurate as when it was new (around 1500 rounds) but will still shoot around 3/4" groups. When I have it rebarreled it will be in the same caliber but with a 1-7" twist for all the heavy bullets that are now on the market.
MERRY CHRISTMAS !!!
Slightly different standard and improved versions have been around "forever" based on .224 and .228 neckdowns of 7x57, 257 Roberts, and 6mm Rem.
Some that come to mind are the 224 Clark 228 Ackley Mag, and 224 TTH.
The 5.6 x 57 RWS is a thick neck commercial version.

Ghee Bruce, you forgot the .228 Newton from pre WW I, but, for course, that wasn't "Improved..." Just don't expect to leave the barrel to your grand children as anything but a pry bar... HAPPY HOLIDAYS...

Several years back there was an article in 1 of the bigger mags regarding the same cartridge as i remember, and i think it was also written by Seyfried. It was well written i thought, as is this latest article. Kinda' nice to know he's getting good results from it without having to go to extreme case prep.
