another great day for shooting here in ol kentucky. i spent half the day trying out ammo in the m77/22 again. this time i used 1/2 inch targets at 50 yards. i need a new solid portable shooting bench. the one i use now is not good for getting groups. it moves and wobbles. i really don't know how this rifle is truely doing because of the junk table. it moves so damned much. here are some targets and my table. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/targets001.jpghttp://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/targets006.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/targets005.jpghttp://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/targets004.jpg http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/targets003.jpg

You do have some very respectable groups there but it looks like your groups go downhill after 50-70 shots. Are you over-heating your barrel ? Does your boresnake still have the brushes in it ? Instead of using the boresnake, let your barrel cool awhile between brands and then shoot a few of the different brand to re-season the barrel. Then go for accuracy and score. Using the boresnake will just cause you to shoot that much more to get it seasoned again for that particular brand. Also check the clearances of your barrel/stock after you have fired a bunch of ammo. It may be heating up just enough to cause the groups to grow with stock/barrel interference.
A steady bench will improve your groups a lot, as you suspect.

when i bored out the barrel chanel i made it oversized just to make sure it floated and had no chance of touching. my boresnake has the brushes on it. i always shoot one shot, then hand oad the barrel. i often reach up and feel the barrel for heat. when i change brands i let the rifle set for awhile so i can get a drink and study the target i just shot. i have noticed that after 55 shots the barrel starts going south. and i have noticed that at times instead of stringing high it will string down. it's got pillers in the stock and glass bedded. with this tight chamber and barrel i'm afraid i might hurt it running my cleaning rod through it. i have one for my hmr, i was thinking about using it to put a few patches down it instead of the boresnake. this way i don't have to go through refowling it again. so far i think the wolf is doing the best, and the pmc (thank god cause they stopped making it) is the worst. i have noticed p.o.a. and p.o.i. doesn't change much at all with the three brands i've used so far. i have about 5000 rounds of different match ammo coming next week sometime to test with as well. i have till the spring to figure this rifle out. i'm going to go ahead and pick up a annie and a weaver t36 in another month as well. i'm going to try to be more competitve this year.
