I am looking for an after market stock that will fit a Ruger 77/17 with a .920 diamter barrel. The only one I've been able to find is a Volquartson, and it's too pricey, in addition to being ugly as hell. Just wondering if any of you know of any company that might sell one.

i put a ross thumbhole on mine. boyds makes them. they have a really wide forend for bench rest shooting, and you can get them in a narrower forend if you want to hunt with it. here a picture of mine. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/rugerm77.jpg they are rough as tree bark when you first get them so you'll do alot of sanding. and you can stain them any color you want. i like the way the gree looks, but i think red will be my next one. this one is he narrow forend stock.http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p19/gonzogunner/photo6.jpg they are thumbhole stocks. i have a factory stock i can bore the channel out for you if that would help you out.

Thanks for the information Gonzo. What I am looking for is a stock that is as close to the factory stock as possible. I may be on the trail of one, don't know yet.

If the deal doesn't work out, I'd suggest calling the folks at Richards Microfit.

I know you've been watching The Beverly Hillbillies lately, have you tried whittling one like Jed Clampett..
