I have a stainless heavy Varmint weight barrel in the garage shop. It is 26" and threaded for my Ruger 77 Mark II switch barrel [Ruger Laminated Varmint stock]. It's a 243 Win.
I've thought about cutting the chamber off and reaming to 6BR. Reamers are at hand in a local friend's reamer collection.
Brass is at hand, he has a 5 gallon bucket of once fired Lapua brass.
Cost will be labor only.
Take the jump?
I don't use the rifle, it's just one I have for occasional target/bench [non formal] shooting. Sounds like Savage is going to bring the 6BR to the forefront now.
Why 6BR,,,,well, I've never had one. Shot Doc's years ago and it was like printing black dots on a target bull anywhere you wanted them,,,all touching most all the time.

Absolutely! 6BR is one of my favorites. 3800 out of a 58Vmax. 2900 out of a 105 Amax. Any chance of him selling some of that Lapua??

They are fun to shoot. It is a chambering I have had on my to do list for a pd rifle. Just seems there are so many choices.

I'll ask but I doubt it. He loves to 'aquire' stuff. Once aquired it's a done deal unless a buddy walks in and asks for some. Usually free.

For the difference between the .243 and the 6mm I would normelly say no way. But for what you`ll have in it, it would be worth it just for a custom chamber. You will have to change the bolt also.

he have to change the bolt? He is having the barrel rechambered and the bolt faces are the same for the 6mm BR and the 243 Win. I realize it is a Ruger and not a Rem 700 style action. Am I missing something here? He also said it is a switch barrel so he has or should have the ability to change barrels without the bolt. Right? Chad

My Rugers are all short action .308 bolt face so the BRs will fit right in fine.

In a heart beat. Question is WHY haven't you done it already.??
My 6BR is a shooting fool, even better than my 221FB. Go for it.

You will have to change the bolt also.
473 case head to 473 case head, no bolt mods needed. Maybe thinking of PPC case??

Shoot me an email... who has the brass... Bob???
If you are going to do a project, let's run the reamer in and headspace with 22-250 gauges;-)

I also have a Krieger 24" 14T barrel waiting to be fit and chambered.
Guess what my dilemma is.
Yep! do I do a second PPC or a third BR. I'm torn because I really love both BR's and want another one, but I really I want a sporter weight this time.
I haven't been able to locate a used CZ in 7.62X39 to do the PPC on, so it looks like I'll end up doing the BR on another Remington action.
They are the easiest cartridge to make shoot well, you won't regret it.
BTW,
I'd like some of that brass too...

Alan ,
Give Scott J. a call . I would bet that he will convince you that you NEED a 6BR .
