Thank You for the new "old" classifieds lay-out. Hope it wasn't too much of a pain to accomplish.

I don't like the old classifieds at all......

I REALLY didn't like the old classifieds. Probably the only real dislike of mine for the old format.

1 - There was no reference to the seller when someone emails them about the item. If you had more than one item listed you had to email the person back and ask them what they were interested in. A huge waste of time.

2 - You have to keep track of the expiration date of the ad, just one more thing to add to the list of to do's. If you posted a bunch of ads and missed the renewal date, all your work was down the toilet.

3 - The amount of text you could use to describe the item was VERY limited. This also made it very difficult to consolidate several items into one ad.

4 - The registration for the classifieds was not linked to the main forum, which was and will continue to be a confusing issue for lots of users.

I hope that the new classifieds remain intact cuz I don't want to use the old style at all if I can help it. I would also like to see the old classifieds deep sixed since they are not really part of the new forum in any way.

I like the old classifieds better for the simple fact that if someone responded to your ad you got an email. I had guys answer my ad with a PM that I never got, so I'm waiting and waiting and nothing, I send a PM and then finally get an answer that they changed their mind or didn't have the funds, much faster with emails than going thru the PM stuff.

1- If you have multipule items say so in your ad.

2- The ads are free, reposting after two weeks is not that hard, plus if I remember correctly you could renew the ad for another two weeks.

3- If you couldn't get everything in one ad, post another one, they're free.

4- Buy a little notebook and write down your user-name and password and keep it by your computer, I do(I'm old!).

And one big reason that I like the old way is that you didn't have to go to every site where you had your stuff listed to see if you got any replies. I always give members here the first shot!

Not knocking you Don, just giving you my side of it.

Ole

Ole,

The only complaint about the new classifieds that I can I see in your post is that you don't like the PMs. Simple cure there, turn of PMs in your user settings and you won't ever have to worry about missing one again.

I am a firm believer in keeping it simple. The new classifieds are far simpler and provide a much easier format for posting ads.

The old system is cumbersome, time consuming to post, not linked to the forum user list in any way, and has several flaws as described above.

Don, read my post, PM's aren't the only thing.

Ooops...you're right, sorry. Two things you don't like:

And one big reason that I like the old way is that you didn't have to go to every site where you had your stuff listed to see if you got any replies. I always give members here the first shot!

I guess I don't understand this one fully. Are you referring to having to go check posts on your ad? If you post it on the new classifieds and specify that they email you about the item rather than posting on the thread, then you don't need to return to the site to check up on it. I don't like having to check up on replies to an ad either, so in that way, the old one is better, unless the above suggestion works, which it has for me on this type of board in the past.

One problem with the email request vs. no PMs or replies to the ad, it does appear that the email function is disabled on the forum, though in the FAQ it talks about it being active. I posted a comment to Mike/John about this.

Does anyone out there see an email button on anyone's posts? I don't see it on any, including my own, and I have email from users enabled but PMs dissabled.

Having some problems with the email function. Seems to be working hit or miss. I did have the email function disabled but I just enabled it.
