View Full Version : Scope Warranty Turn Around
Hello all,
I am having to return a scope for warranty work (it is a well known brand, and i have no intention of using their name at this time) However, I have just been told that it could take up to 10 weeks to have it returned. If this is in fact the time it will take for the repair by the company it has caused me to rethink wich brand of scope i purchase in the future.
I have several leupolds and have never had to return them for warranty work (the scope mentioned above, is not a leupold). The scope i am returning is on par with leupold in price. However, for those who have used leupold's repair shop, what was the quoted time and the actual turn around time?
Thank you,
C.R.

I have sent two scopes to Leupold, one to have a retical changed and one to have target knobs installed and the object lense replace (it was chipped on the edge, did not affect function but looked bad).
The first was shipped to Leupold on a Monday and I had it back on Friday, I have no idea how they did that.
The second took about 2 weeks as I recall but that included a call from Leupold about the chipped lense (I bought it cheap at a gun show already chipped). I explained that I had no idea how it got chipped and they replaced it under warrantee. Both of these instances were about 5 - 7 years ago.
I had a Burris 6X HBR scope fail and sent it into Burris, after a week I called to check on it and was told if I wanted to have it repaired free under warrantee it would be up to 10 months as it was an older model and they had to order the parts??? They offered a “Burris Credit” that I could apply to any Burris scope so I took that and bought a 6X HBR II, which is a better scope IMO anyway. The credit was not as much as I paid for the original scope but I could not wait 10 month to get my scope back.
As long as we are talked optic warrantee I have a pair of Nikon Bino’s 10X50’s that I really like, they developed a “Rattle” a couple of years after getting them, I notice the retaining ring on one of the front lenses was loose, I could not move it so I called Nikon. They said ship it back as it is covered under warrantee. This was one month before a planned mule deer hunt in western ND. I clearly communicated this to the service person and was repeatedly told that I would have my Bino’ back in plenty of time for my hunt. A month and a half after getting back from my hunt I received a bill for the warrantee work ($29 something, for “Shipping and Handling” or some other BS). After a couple of calls I gave up and paid the ransom to get my Bino’s back.
I really like a lot of Nikon products but I hope I never have a warrantee issue with them again!
Good Hunting

Yes, I have returned a Leupold and a Burris. The leupold was returned in a short time. The Burris took weeks, 8 weeks to be exact. The work was not completed on the Burris. There was a piece of trash inside the scope. I sent it back to them once again and the same results. The trash in the scope is little more than annoying. I have yet to purchase another Burris product.

First off, I'll admit a strong bias to Leupold and being a Leupold junkie, period,..... owning 32 of them or thereabouts, scopes, bino's, spotters, yadda, yadda.
That said, the longest the factory has ever taken to repair or adjust, modify, or even custom-build one of my scopes has been two weeks. One week to a week and a half are usually the norm, and that includes UPS transit time. Of course I'm only 150 miles from the factory, so take that into consideration.
I won't even go into stories from years past with other brands regarding service or factory return issues. With the amount we pay for these things, factory service/warranty is critical in my book, hence all Leupold's in the safe. Others may/will differ, but that's my take on it. :)

At 1 time I bought a LOT of used scopes & would send them back to have the serviced. Of the 20 or so sent to Leupold none took more than 2 weeks. I have sent new Burris scopes back to Burris several times with mixed results including getting trash in when there was none to begin with. I had a German Zeiss split it's crosshairs while I was hunting out west, it took 9 months to get it back from Germany. I assume that that they now do that service in the US. I have returned a Sworviski to their Rhode Island office with a tracking problem & they replaced all springs & seals in under 1 week.

My experiences have been similar to the others.
Like Rick, over the years I have amassed more Leupolds than anything else.
The Burrus experiences were not satisfactory and I no longer have any Burrus scopes.
Well since I started this thread requesting info on turn around time for scope repair, I figured it'd be right to share the outcome.
The scope manufacturer in question is Zeiss. I started this thread on 3/23. I don't have my shipping info in front of me. I know i didn't mail the scope out for repair on the 23rd, but definately no later than the 28th (in fact i believe it was the 28th). Anyway, I walk in my house today and there is a package for me. It appears to be a brand new scope. So it took less than a month from ship date to back in my hands. I definately can't complain about my experience with Zeiss.

I had a Bushnell Trophy scope that had developed a locked up power adjustment ring. I sent it in with the prerequisite $10 for return shipping. In less than 3 weeks, I had a new scope in my hands. Darn good service on such an inexpensive optic.
