View Full Version : Never, never again!
Couple of years ago I ordered two fully-finished stocks from Boyds, one for a Ruger 77 and one for a Rem SA BDL, both were so far outta whack I sent them both back. Taking a chance, I ordered another, a Rem SA ADL thru Cabelas, two days it was here. Tried putting the barreled action in it and it doesn't fit, the magazine is hitting on both sides towards the rear, the inletting is to small. I pulled the magazine off the action and just tried putting it in the stock, no go! The slot where the trigger housing goes thru is to small, I'll have to open it up. I will get this stock to work cause I like the looks of it, but I'm done with Boyds.

While I realize you may be (probably) after one of Boyd's Bench Style stocks, if you are just looking for a quality sporter style stock may I humbly suggest:
http://www.accurateinnovations.com/index.html
I recently purchased one in their standard grade walnut for a Remington model 7 in 7-08 and I am VERY pleased. Only negative I can offer is that it took about twice as long as their web site stated for the stock to come in, but the action dropped right in, no fitting (fit was actually MUCH better than the factory stock), perfectly finished. The standard grade wood is pretty sweet also! And as stated on the website, this stock is "Fully bedded in full length aluminum chassis that distributes recoil force evenly throughout stock with unique multi-lug system".
They can and WILL do a wide variety of barrel contours and are very willing to discuss/plan your stock on the phone.

Canazes9 - Nice stock, pretty rifle, but I'll bet that stock cost 3 times what the Boyds did.
I did some work with my Dremel tool and the sanding drum and I got it to fit, at opening up the barrel channel right now.

Hmmm - Hadn't really thought about it, not sure what Boyd's stocks are going for - This stock was about $500.00 if I remember correctly, could have been cheaper if you finish it yourself, etc.

Really very different class of stocks there. I have used Boyd's in the past and expect that they will take some work.
But I DO appreciate the lead on AI. I am not familiar with them, but might be looking into one of their stocks for a project I have!
the action would not fit, not even close a 5 lb hammer would not have driven it in. A quick call and I was done with Boyd's for good. I explained to the gent on the phone I had ordered a short action stock for a Rem 700 and it did not fit, he insisted on my telling him what caliber it was. I told him a .260 Rem just to shut him up, low a behold he knew why the stock did not fit. "The .260 Remington is built on a long action, you should really have asked us before ordering it is not our fault you got the wrong stock". After I spoke with his boss I returned the stock and got a refund, bite me once shame on you, bit me twice and well....
try gunstocks.com I have been very happy with the quality

I've had the same results from Boyds..it took me 3 times to figure it out
then I started dealing with Elkridge and never looked back.
Sorry for your troubles

WOW ok I will not be ordering from Boyd's. I was looking at a sporter stock for my old Rem Mod 30. If they are having this much trouble on a very common easy to inlet stock I am not even worried about getting an off the wall stock from them.
What do you guys say about Richards Microfit? I was thinking about getting two of their stocks one for my Rem Mod 30 and one for my 1917 enfield target rifle.

I have a stock from Richards, and it was made exactly like I ordered it. No problems at all. I have heard that their delivery time can be rather variable, but mine came in a timely manner.

Bret FYI:
I Googled Elk Ridge Stocks out of curiosity and found this link at 24Hour CampFire, comparing Richards MicroFit with Elk Ridge. Seems to be a lot of mixed results.
