I'm considering buying my first rangefinder and, wouldn't you know it, the model that I think would be just right apparently is no longer being made. I've found scads of great reviews for the Leica LRF1200, but all I can find from the optics vendor sites are CRF (compact) models. Has Leica quit making the LRF1200? If so, can anyone recommend where I might look for a good used one?

LRF 1200 is the"old" model and was replaced with the CRF last fall. The CRF 1200 which is basically the same, but smaller. I have seen new LRF 1200 discontinued priced around $450ish. Both are excellent and preform the same (very accurate and work). They both come in yard or meter versions, I would get the yard one if it was me. I have used both and can't really tell any difference, except size. Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,
The LRF1200 is no longer produced, but they're still available. Here's where I bought mine last fall: http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/site.pl?page=40525 .
Paid $430 and had it 2 days later. That was cheaper than I could find the LRF900. Works great around here, but it hasn't been to the P'dog wars yet. Enjoy!

Sid and Mike,
I checked less than a week ago, and they still have them at that price - right on the lower left portion of their homepage. Have no fear, they will work great on on PD's. I like mine, and being a bit larger than the CRF, I think they will be easier to hold steady on 'difficult' targets like longrange PDs.

Thanks a ton, guys. I've bought from those big New York camera shops, but it always makes me nervous. I'm glad to at least have some kind of referral. Placed an online order just now, so the praying begins. I'm sure glad to find someone still had some of these new, and at a really good price. There's a review on 6MMBR.com that really gives high marks to this LRF1200. The slightly smaller size is apparently the only advantage of the CRF1200 and it costs about $200 more.
Thanks again, Sid.

if you can swing it check out the swaro range finder, i believe theres still a bunch on the sample list thats marked down a little.
Camera land had "demo" 1200 LRF with scan for 340ish I believe just awhile ago. I grabbed one but forget the exact price. Looks and works like new.
