http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o172/JRinKY/DSCF0253.jpg[/IMG]With a little help from my Savage .243.
Went out to feed the cows this morning about 0900; took my BarnKat "SLINKY" with me as she loves to ride in my cab tractor. I unrolled a roll of hay for the girls, and thought: "Sure looks like a nice sunny morning for a Coyote to be out and about."
I have caught a couple on Candid Camera lately with my Bushnell Trailcam in the area I have been feeding my cows and calves. This is the same area I zapped a Big Male Coyote in December. I had my camo painted SAVAGE M 10, .243 with us in the cab, but I neglected to bring any sort of Coyote Call. I thought about putting a sting around "Slinky's" neck and using her for bait, but she declined the offer and refused to leave the safety of the tractor cab.
I figured that I smelled like "Kat" since she had been rubbing all over me for the best part of an hour, and since I had "Meooowwed" a couple in before; I was good to go. I stopped the tractor, and walked very carefully down into the woods; eased up in front of a large oak tree. Stood there for a couple of minutes and cautiously readied my SAVAGE for action.
"MEEEOOOOOWWWW. MEEEOOOOWWWW.
Well, Lookie here. Who comes bounding up the hill but Mrs. Coyote in search of "SLINKY". Stops about 50 yards away thinking: "I know I heard a KAT around here somewhere, and I sure would like to have one for breakfast." My neighbor lady had told me a couple weeks ago that she lost her cat "Milo" to the coyotes, and who knows, this could be the culprit.
Mrs Coyote is not really paying attention, but she is in a position that I will have to fire without any sort of rest. I try to steady myself. I carefully ease the crosshairs on her shoulders and squeeze off a 75 g. VMAX which finds its mark. No trailing necessary...D.R.T.
I go back to the tractor and retreive "SLINKY" and take her down to see the dead Coyote. She sees it from 50 yards away, and starts stuggling to get away. "Damn It JR," There's a big Coyote lying down there, and they try to catch me all the time." Slinky is a survivor; she has evaded them for several years.. ...probably down to just a couple of lives left out of the original 9.
Check out the "Glare" she is giving the dead coyote.
