Got a double today for the 1st time:D
I have had the opportunity only one other time and blew it.
I decided late yesterday to go this morning because it was going to be cool and would probably be my last Calling morning for quite a while,
Junior turkey opened yesterday in KY and I do not usually hunt while there is any big game season open, however I called and no one would be hunting so that sealed the deal.
Got to my location just after sun up overlooking the large CRP area I killed a small sickly female a few weeks earlier.
After setting up I sat against the big Oak tree I use as my backrest, a beautiful morning.
I started the caller and it played about 1 minute into DYING JACK out of the XR6 and I see a coyote trot around the corner of the thicket that runs the length of the hill to my right and down to the bottom of the hill about 175 yards downhill. ( every coyote I have seen at this spot has come around that corner ) He was coming very aggressively and, I tried to stop him but the birds, turkeys gobbleing were making such a fuss I could barely hear my caller and it was at full volume. I waited until he turned towards the caller and fired, HIT, started spinning and spinning , and spinning and spinning, buy the time he quit he was at about 240 and I lost site of him. Confident he was down I relaxed and was going to wait 10 minutes or so and call again, I look over and he is standing ,slowely walking away, BAM, down he goes. Settle back down and figure it is over. Start packing up my stuff and look down the hill and there he is standing looking around:eek: , BAM hes down for good. WHEEEW,
Decided to sit down and maybe wait 20-30 minutes and then call my daughters boyfriend, he was going to stick hunt with me.
about 15 minutes go by and around the corner comes another coyote, couldnt get Her to stop, bang , she starts triwling like a top all the way to the bottom of the hill, Bang, miss, trotting ,hurt, bang , a hit at around 200yards and she,s down, RELOAD, start packing up turn around and she is walking towards a creek bottom at 250 or so, sit down, get gun on sticks ,BANG, she turns towards sound and sits down and looks towards the sound, Bang, she is down for good.
Whew, not exactly the bang flop I would like but a heart thumper for sure.

Jr, I was using the Bushmaster Preditor, Sure missed that set trigger I have on my CZ527, Both 1st shots were poor hits, Those dogs are tougher than I thought, I am very glad I could finish them quickly. The trigger on my AR is just not great for field shooting.
Today was the final straw, will get a new trigger for it or just carry my CZ, I love the handling of the AR while on stand better than any rifle I have owned so I guess I will be getting a GOOD trigger. That good Glass and reloading is a waste otherwise.

Good work on them in the end!

I have a RRA 4.5# 2 stage in my AR everyone who shoots it just raves about it. Obviously I like it too. :D

Yes,I am the Bluegrass Walking Sticks guy, Last stick hunt of the year. Sap is back up and the ticks are fierce already in the thickets. My daughters boyfriend picked around 25 off him when we were done. I use Permanone on my clothes and was lucky to have none.

They just didn't have the sense to give up when the end was inevitable. Two yotes down is two more than you had when you started the day. You obviously did learn some more definitive facts abt your rig and will put that knowledge to good use. That is what they call "experience", iirc.

Good going and keep it up.

Good shootin' and congratulations. That thrill of the first yote called in is only exceeded by the first DOUBLE that you call in and score on.

Tain't for the faint of heart is it? WD

a need to be shot a second time a bonus, two times the shooting for the price of one, can't beat that.

Congrats on the double, with 5 shots for the price of two....

I just wanted to say congrats to u. I use to be a member on this site a long time ago, but under the name cat caller. I was in a small varmint calling contest this past wkend in north central texas. Had a great night with a total of 3 cats, 4 dogs and approx 20 coons called in. Now the bad news is, I lost 1 cat and 2 dogs. I hit them just never found them, have never had that much bad luck in 1 nite. we still won the contest, just barely. So I have decided to buy me a bigger gun. Hope to be ready for next season. Keep up the good work.

Nice save. Sometimes a little more lead down-range is just what the doctor ordered.

I don't care if you had to stone em to death, you can't argue with sucess. A little drama every now and then just makes the hunt easy to remember. I have seen some of em take allot of lead.
