It was a nice day so after I set up my blind for turkey, I eased up the road to the property with the ground hog problem. I walked along the opposite side of the yard from the house about 150 yards out, crossed the field and climbed into my ladder stand.

I have a nice view of the back of the house, but there is an old outhouse(yes a crapper) between me and the shed. I knew a hog was going under the shed, but I really wasn't expecting any action there. After 20 minutes of nothing, I decided I'd head home.

I have been placing sticks in the holes to see which ones they are using, as I was coming around the outhouse I saw him!!! I ducked and he ducked, under the shed. Man, I was 30 yards away and my clip was out of the gun(I take it out to climb the ladder, safety first). Anyway, I peered through the scope and felt like I could see the top of his head, I was crouching and I eased back 5-6 steps. I thought I could still see his head, but just barely...I eased my clip back in, racked a round and checked my saftey on.

I crouched with the rifle at the ready for about 3-4 minutes. I knew I couldn't stay crouched forever, so I eased back to my right behind the outhouse putting it between me and him. I got a good glimps of him when I moved. I figured it was go time, I took the safety off, and while standing (so I could see well) I eased to my left again and brought him into view, finger on the trigger, settled the dot and squeezed.

He turned to look in my direction right as the trigger broke. The bullet broke his jaw clean in half and didn't exit, it was a quick clean kill. He was a young male, I was elated.

And there you go. I know there at least 2 more in that yard, possibly more. It's gunna be a fun summer ya'll!!!!! :beerchug

Congrats! Very nice looking rig there.. good luck sniping the others.. I luv a chuck hunt!!! Groundhogs are very curious and social creatures, which benefits us.. their nose gets them in deep trouble. Keep up the good work.
What type of rifle is that and what caliber?

It's a Rock River Arms in 5.56. I bought the lower and assembled from there, it just turned out that everything was RRA when I was done. The barrel is heavy stainless (1 inch under the guard), free floated 1:8" twist. RRA 4.5# two stage trigger. Mueller scope 6.5-25x50mm red dot fine hairs.

I live in Richmond and hunt mostly in Charles City. I am working on "branching" out into some other counties for predator hunting.

Finally got to go groundhog shooting 0n April 23-24. Actually that is a fib, I did go up on April 08 to scout for new areas, as this was my first opportunity after some serious surgery, and I did bring my rifle though, and shot 11 that happened to pop their heads up. This trip was dedicated to shooting some of these newfound areas, and I was not dissapointed. I shot 46 hogs in one day and one evening of shooting. 20 of them in one 75 acre field alone and there is a pile of them left there that I have to take care of in late June or early July when the hay is coming off. I shoot a .243 AI on a SAKO action, that unfortunately is worn out, the barrel that is, it has been the demise of some 8000 groundhogs. I'm looking at a Krieger in the same caliber and Mark Penrod to do the work. Anybody with a better suggestion??
