Went out on Lake Ray Hubbard yesterday and managed to catch a couple. One of my in-laws Floyd was up visiting and landed this critter. Does anybody have any idea what it is?

Looks like a cross between a Carp and a Bass maybe. Perhaps a Redfish variant?

Also, I managed to lose a nearly new $100 rod in 26 feet of water. I was fooling around with the anchor line and had my foot on the rod. I hadn't noticed I had a snag and when I took my foot of the rod to pick it up it, "zing", it was yanked over the side of the boat. We were unable to snag it despite hanging around for another hour plus.

That looks like a snakehead- an invasive species from Asia thats spreading acrossed the country. If you still have it(hopefully you didn't it loose) you might call the fish and game dept. and tell them about it or give them the fish.

Here's a link to a few pics of the snakehead

BTDT John. I remember catching one when I was about 12 yrs old with my dad. Trolling nightcrawlers for walleye and brought up this strange creature from the depths...about the same size as that but they get much bigger!

For those of you that think it's a snakehead...

John, for a couple of bucks Wal-Mart has a marine retrieval magnet. For what you lost; it would be worth it to buy one and try to fish out your gear.
