Ok I have a chance this weekend to get in a little fishing for walley. I have never fished for walley so what in the world do you use to fish for them?
I have a tackle box from my late father in law. It is full of these goofy looking Mepps Walley Killer luers. Other than that and a worm of minno what do you use? I think we will be fishing from the shore or a dock.

The best fishing is on the lake. The local bait stands offer a lot of advice. I grew up an inland fisher and now. The best I have done is take teh day charters or ride along with friends. The lure vary by time of season and there are a lot of changes made to see what is attractive. Besides my neighbor is retired and an avid fisherman. He gives me all I want. No sunburn and I can still shoot groundhogs. By far it is my favorite fish. It is excellent baked or fried.

My son and I went out last Friday and had a 3 man limit of eyes before noon, we left out of Oak Harbor, we trolled to within a 1/2 mile or less of Canada though, we got our fish on spoons in water between 25-32ft, we also got a fair number of whitebass and sheepshead, I can put you in contact with the guy who took us out if you would like, he has very reasonable rates for parties between 2-4, cant tell you much about the shore fishing other than I hear you can catch any number of sheepshead on just about anything you throw at them.

Pretty good chance you won't catch any walleyes from shore or a dock. I grew up on a good walleye lake in Minnesota. You had to get out from shore quite a bit to get into the walleyes. You got Northern Pike, bass, perch and sunfish from shore or the dock. Up in the Canadian Shiel you would get walleyes from the islands.

Might want to look here or ask the same question here . Quite often there are guys offering "open seats" on their boats for walleye fishing . That means they will have room to take someone with them and are willing to do so .
Just an idea .

Headed out in the morning for some Walley fishing. We took a ride up to Port Clinton toady. and Ate at Jolly Rogers (1737 E Perry St Port Clinton, OH 43452 (419) 732-3382 )there. I had never had walley before so I ordered the Walley and chips. Boy was that some Good Eates (Shamelessly stole from Alton Brown). If you are up that way and you want some good fresh fish right out of the lake I would have to say go to Jolly Rogers.
Ok back to the point of this post. We are going to Heron and fishing off of a pier the guy taking me up there has had real good luck catching walley from there. Also said we would be able to get some perch as well. I will take pleny of pictures (If I catch something over 6" long)

I don't fish any lakes that size but up here I switch from rigs to rappala fire tigers at the end of July. Works well for me but I use them near channels and flood ways haven't tried anything else. when I actually figure out the pictures I'll edit this to show ya

Erie deeries were what used to work, use them with nightcrawlers. Spray worm with WD40. Dont know why, but it always worked. Huron pier is OK in December, but you need to be trolling out in the lake for walleye this time of year. Fun fish to catch, great to eat. Lots of fishcleaning around the lake. Good luck, Tom
