I finally got out on the water yesterday, after too too many years of basically not fishing.

Went down to Plaquemines Parish and did a bit of fishing for reds and anything else foolish enough to bite.

This 35" bull redfish met the bill. The biggest I've ever caught.

As did this nice flounder.

My friend and I finished the day with 8 reds, 3 black drum, the flounder, one speck and a sheepshead. Of course, we also caught lots of bait stealing trash fish.

This was my first trip to the area since Katrina, and while it was a bit of a shock to see how much the terrain has changed, it was a great to get back on the water.

After laying off for all that time, you sure didn't forget how to catch some nice fish. Both the red and the flounder are really nice. Wish I could have been there with you.

But I can't tell you how shocked I was to see just how much of the coastal marsh has been lost. Miles and miles of canals and marsh areas Hu & I used to fish regularly are now simply open water. I had heard a lot was lost, but I just didn't realize the awful reality of it until I saw it with my own eyes.

And yeah, that red fought magnificently! He made 3 great, line stripping runs before he began to tire and I was able to work him in to the boat.
