Building up a new rifle most likely a Remington VSF in either 223 or 22-250
My last Remington had a Vari X III 6.5x20 that was like 10 years ago. My question is should I get a more powerful scope for my new Gun is that fine?
Thanks
Bryan

Do you do most of you shooting in early morning? Because later in the day you're more than likely going to limited to about 14 power.
I use the 6.5 X20 on my 22-250 did use it on my .223 which is now a 6 X 24 Burris Signature nice early in the day but like the Leupold down
to about 14 when the mirage comes in.
What's for sale in your post?

I personally like a scope with more power. You can't hit what you can't see.
Any of the top of the line scopes will be fine.

Bryan, I'd suggest you "go off all the way plumb" and get a Leupold 8.5X25
30mm tube and side focus. Be sure you get the Varmint Reticle; it really makes varmint shooting ie Prairie Dogs a lot more fun. It's easy to learn to use
and very accurate. John Kruzan

I have to agree w/ Oleman. I shoot a lot of p-dogs and coyotes w/ my 250. It has a 6x18 and the only time I have it on 18 is at the range and early, early in the morning. In the afternoon or after a few shoots the mirage is so bad you can't put it much higher than 12x. Unless you really like spending the money for a high power v3 I would suggest a v2 6x18. Spend a little extra for the target turets, you'll love them.

Spend the money on higher quality glass and the highest power. Glass quality is first, power second.
My 6-24 power scopes spend 99% of their time at 16 or 18 power, regardless of temp. My VX3 8.5-25 Leupold is at 25x...even in the heat of the day.
