I have three 1.5-3X 20mm scopes by Weaver that are mounted on a 338 Win Mag (Win 70) a 375 H&H Mag (Win 70) and a 8mm Rem Mag (Rem 700) that have all worked great for close and moderate range. They have held up to recoil and performed in all sorts of weather. Don't know if they are still made but worth a look.

I would suggest you look around for a used 1.5 X 5 X 20mm Leupold. Very nice small scope. This is the time of year I picked up both of mine used at a fair price.

I have a 1.5x5 VXIII Leupold. Very nice scope, I second the above.

I have it on my wild-cated rifle. It has about double the energy of a 30-06. The scope is really a shotgun scope, so paralax is set at 75 yards. I love the reticle for snap shooting! The scope has held up to close to 1000 rounds so far without any problems!
