A young friend of mine who is a Marine reserve PFC intends to do some serious practice on his own time with his personally-owned AR-15 to improve his marksmanship skills. He is not made of money, and has asked me what is the least expensive spotting scope he can get that will enable him and his Marine buddy to clearly spot .223 holes in paper at distances up to 500 yards. This is pretty much all the scope will be used for.
