Caught This Drum Last Night!

While fishing for small mouth last night I caught this drum that weighed 8.6 pounds and measured 26 and a half inches long. I was using a small spinning reel at the time and was thowing a jig. Sure did think I had me a giant smallmouth!

can look at it this way, he does have a small mouth and he did fight good. On some bass trips if it wasnt for the Drum bite, it would have been down right boring. Larry in western Ky.

I have done the same thing many times while smallie fishing, I have gotten into a couple carp in the 6-8lb range, this fall I got into a couple fat channel cats..one on a jitterbug of all things, the channels had flooded into a hole that I fish because there was a ton of shad that had came into the area.

I love my ultralight set up it is my go to rod when I take the kids fishing.

My daughter caught a 30" catfish on my ultralight set up. I don't know who was more tired us or the fish as we both made about 10 trips up and down two sides of the lake.

Wife and I got into a shcool of the darn things on the Lake of the Ozarks a couple of years ago. Caught a stringer full in about an hour on Johnson Silver spoons , all about the same siz, 13-15 inches. Decent eating.
