Who still uses this fine little round, I found another rifle about a year ago, a Remington 592 tube feed, I refinished the stock and it looks about new now,

Had one back in the early 70,s back in Ohio, killed a lot of game with it,, Got rid of it when ammo started drying upback then, But that's over with now, stocked with about 1500 rounds, of new ammo. Took it out to the desert today and fine tuned it inwith a new scope Nikon 3X9, It shoots very well,

My job is over with now here in Nevada, And i will be heading back to the target rich environment of central Ohio, Looking forward to putting it to some good use,

Our neighbors told my wife last week a coyote was seen in our back yard,, Humm,,,

The market wasn't ready then. Make sure you lay in a good supply since we don't know when or if they will stop making them again. Good luck and enjoy your gun.

A few years ago you could buy those old Remingtons for 75-150 bucks, now that the ammo is back, the last Beckley gun show a fellow had one on his table for 450.00 . A big price increase, I didn't think I needed one that bad, and price check around here at 20.00 a box. I'd still like to have one.

I just picked up a 5mm Craig barrel for an Encore with all the reloading supplies. (The 5mm Craig is the centerfire, reloadable version of the 5mm Remington Rimfire.)
Looks like it could be a fun, interesting little round.

Ok,,,it's been LONG ENOUGH. SOMEBODY ought to just start making factory centerfire cases. I've got buddys with the CF cases made from Hornet cases and they work, but HEY,,instead of all these MULTIPLE BRAND NAME [Ruger/Remington/Winchester] SHORT MAG cartridges,,,how about a REALLY USEFUL case that no one has anything similar to? Yup,,the 5mm/.20 cal Hornady/Rem/Win/Federal ?????
Rimfire? ....fine...but lets get this neat little case up into the 'centefire' power and reloadability category it belongs in!

I think one is a 591 & the other a 592. Anyhow, the 592 is tube fed & the
591 is clip fed. I believe that I purchased the 591 from our Friend Mr. George
Coyote Man. Haven't shot either. The 592 is like new. I had two boxes of the
original Remington 5MM Ammo, and when Centurion came out with their 5MM
Ammo I picked up a good supply. So, this is another need to get around to
project I need to give some attention. I used to hunt years ago with a Friend
who had a 5MM Remington & it was death & destruction at 100 yard or so on
Crows & Groundhogs, & other assorted varmints.

The first time I used one was back in 72-73 A friend had got one for his wife to groundhog hunt with, He would take me hunting sometimes and let me use the 5mm, My only rifle was a 22lr with open sites,

The first time I fired it was on a small groundhog about 75yrds with just the head sticking up abouve some grass, I pinched the trigger and the pup vanished,

Walking up on the site I seen the tiny 38grn bullet had completely taken its head off, Needless to say I was sold after that, For two years I slaughtered small vermin and some big chucks too with that rifle until graduating to the 22-250,

I guess sometimes we all end up where we started at?

Wish I still had it , It was the clip fed Rem 591.

Are the 5mm craig people still around? I had a 591 converted by them and lost the address I didn't find it on the web- they edm'ed a slot in your bolt head and put in a center fire firing pen. the kit included the conv work the dies- 200 rds brass/bullets-the brass they sold was machine turned if you tried to full length resize you would break the case rim off. the case walls were thick enough that it was probably not needed. I'd like to reconvert it if I can get a rim fire bolt head

I have a 591, the clip fed version, that I have had for many years. Got a box and a half of Remington ammo which for years was valued higher than the gun. I have stocked up on the Centurian ammo and while it shoots fair in my rifle it is no where near as good as the old Remington Stuff. I only have one clip for the rifle and have been unable to find another one of the little plastic ditties. I've always enjoyed the little rifle and am glad to have some ammo for it.

I have a model 591 with the Schroeder CF conversion done to it. It is extremely accurate for a 150 yard varminter.

I recommend the Schroeder CF conversion as his conversion replaces the entire original RF bolt head with a really nifty CF bolt head that he provides. Swapping them out if you decide to shoot RF ammo again later on is a five minute job with a pin punch.

His brass is made from machined 22 Hornet brass and the brass is fully re-sizeable. RCBS and Redding, IIRC, make dies for Schroeder.

The Craig CF conversion is a permanent cut across the bolt face using a modified firing pin. Once done, you can't go back to RF if you want to without finding another RF bolt head.

I really enjoyed my 591 clip fed 5mm till the ammo started running out. Had some initial problems with the thin barrel and had a "smith sleeve it. Yes, it was a lttle heavier, but a lot steadier in the field offhand. Sold it to buy a hornet and have regretted it ever since. Sold the 5mm with about 1300rds of ammo which is probably what induced the buyer to buy. Had a B&L 2 1/2-8x on it that went with the sale-real nice package. Hindsight is 20x20 isn't it?:) Steve-share your sport
