I thought it would be fun to see how many woodchucks all of you have taken with a rimfire in a single year.Good luck to all of you.

I used to work at a tree nursery where we had a problems with groundhogs tunneling and chewing on our newly planted trees.
Since houses where close by I bought a Career .22 cal air rifle that used compressed air from a scuba tank. It generated about 30 ft lbs of energy and it was good with head shots out to 50 yards. The first season I took out over seventy hogs and the next about 50 then about 20. I finally retired from my job and am not allowed back in because of politics.

Last year downed 5 groundhogs (that's what they're called in Alabama). About 1 per hunt, not counting trips to look over land. This is in an area of about 7-8 acres. They seemed reluctant to come out and were wary when out. Hunted with Ruger 10-22. Kills ranged from 35-77 yards.
Later, in November, while squirrel hunting killed coyote with same weapon.
I realize that these are not impressive numbers, but I had a lot of fun and limited some garden damage for a relative.
God bless,
Danny
After neglecting my 1/2 acre food plot for a year, I took 22 off of it with a .22 mag the next year, and two more at the horse farm where my daughter rides. Total - 24
I know a guy who took about that many in a day walking orchards and fence rows with his .22 Mag.

When I was a freshmen in high scool, I hog hunted that summer with a marlin golden 39A and irons, I walked a 3 mile circle around our lil farm (yeah you could do that then, so you know it was a long time ago) that summer I took 92 hogs with that lil marlin.

Gotta say I luv my little Marlin 22WMR.. it's good for head shots out to about 140 yards. I manage to get 1/2 dozen or so each year with it..It really likes the Remington 33grain Premier Ammo.

Of the 77 total groundhogs I shot last year, 9 were with a rimfire - all from a .17HMR NEF Sportster/20gr Hornadys. Recently bought a Marlin 982VS .22WMR just like (?) Sam's, with the carbon-fiber stock, and it looks like a shooter, also: a rough sight-in with RWS SPs looked real good before I got "frozen fogged" out at the range; will try the Rem. 33s next.

Last summer my son (12) and I combined for 109 chucks. We used a 17HMR Sportster with Bushnell 10X and a Rem 722 in 222. 80 or so were from one 70 acre farm. (ya, it is a great place!)

Taken with my Anschutz 17HMR pistol was a challenge one spring day last fall. I took 5 rockchucks from a high mountain meadow after a long morning climb. The Anschutz pistol has a 14" bbl. and is great to pack. It was a bit challenging to get within 100 yds. of each. But, not so rewarding for 'dem rock varmints.
