View Full Version : How Do You Buy Rimfire Ammo?
I tend to buy by the case (5000). I feel anything less than a carton (500) is a waste of your time since it can be hard to get more of a particular lot# your gun likes. With match ammo I'll trade off what's left if it's not satisfactory for me, the cheaper stuff I save for plinkin. Even bulk pack ammo I will buy 10 cartons at a time. I have some old Federal that I weight sorted that prints in the low .4's from a 10/22. I currently have less than 10k due to out of stock and limiting quantities. Can't wait for ammo to build back up, just hope retailers don't see these last few months as a good reason to keep prices inflated.

I just buy 2 or 3 boxes (Federal Bulk) when ever I get a chance I have had to slow down because I have ran out of storage. I need to get some water tight boxes to put it in my closet. I have close to 25,000 22lr.

and when on sale[ at least as to .17 HMR and then usually Mid-South].
Did buy 10K WW .22 Dynapoints a year or so ago..semi-disappointed as WW switched manufacture of this line to a MS plant while it was virtually unobtainable in my area[Central FL]..have quite a few failures to fire compared to originals. I'll live with it as I'm just an old paper-punching trigger pulling plinker who never fired a round of Eley, LOL.
FWIW, I prefer on-line purchasing for most things I buy..selection, price, convenience and low cost delivery. My wife enjoys shopping, I don't shop - I buy...if you see my car in a mall parking lot, hers is out of gas.

i get test lots of ammo first. then i test it in my rifles. i find what it likes then i buy a case for that rifle out of that lot!!!! because a rifle likes the first box of a ammo doesn't mean it will like the next lot.
right now i have a case of lapua my suhl loves in colder weather but hates in the warm weather. then i have a case of eley black box it loves in the summer but hates in the colder weather!!!!
i have sk match and pistol match that i practice with in the hall and suhl. the savage markII loves the sk match better than anything i have shot in it. i have a case of it as well.
when i find some sk standard plus that the suhl and hall likes i'll buy a case for each rifle.
i have a case of one lot of eley black box for the hall also. ganna pick another case of that lot number up as soon as i can. it shoots danged great!!!

Virtually all my rimfire ammo is bought by the brick from MidSouth. The majority of it (5K rds +) is .17 caliber. I'm about to reduce my WMR supply on a trip to South Dakota so I'll probably be buying next month.

By the case. Last summer when it started looking like it would be either Hillary or Obama I went down to Wallyworld and bought 20,000 rounds of Federal 510, which works very well in my rifles. Sure am glad I did seeing all the things going on now with guys trying to find even one box of any kind of ammo.
By the Brick and not many of them lately. Only when could find them.

Bricks of 22 long rifle are very, very difficult to find, let alone buy in SE Michigan, so when I was in Wally World in Montana last month, I bought 20 bricks of Remington (550 package). and each of my buddies bought 10 bricks. It was a fluke that they had them in stock as nobody else in town had any and the local police dept. had just cancelled their order, so lucky us, we took 45 of their 80 bricks. Hit the jackpot as the price was very good to boot.....:D
