You Dad's that are shooting with your sons, what do you do when they reach that stage when shooting bulk ammo is like kissing a pig  My son's are at that age and skill level that when I pull out the bulk stuff you would think I was serving them a crap sandwich. First words out of my sons mouth, "where's the Eley, don't we have any Wolf MT?" I've created monsters!....Hmm........where did I hide 'the good stuff" :D

I don't have sons, but daughters that love to hunt could be worse! Ever since my daughter started hunting deer with her .243 I have loaded Barnes bullets for her. Now even to practice her off-hand shooting, she insists on her triple shocks. I may have cured her though. Last time she took my truck into town, I asked if she wanted to go shooting over the weekend. Of course she did! I then told her to stop at Gander Mt and pick up some bullets... Sorry, I don't have any cash on me. A couple days later, she was helping to trim her brass.... Still no Barnes...

the old man had a week routine. Monday cast bullets and size them on Tuesday, Wednesday Load, Thursday clean them up and get ready for Saturday. Friday was a day off then Saturday Shoot and Shoot and Shoot. Sunday was clean up day....

Get them some Eley sport and tell them it is was a packaging error.

when you pay the bills, you may shoot whatever you buy.

That’s a tough one! You want them to love what they're doing and always want them to go with you but who’s happy with less than the best their rifle can do. I don’t know how old they are but my grandsons (9 and 5) like shooting targets other than paper, like a metal spinner I made or even a tin can on a stick, just something that has noise and action. That way it’s not quite as frustrating as shooting groups that are less than your best but they still get trigger time and accuracy satisfaction with less than the expensive ammo.

I like the idea of reactive targets and for my 6yr old that would be just the ticket, but he's not the one that's got a problem with bulk ammo. My 13yr old's rifle is a Sako Quad and he's very familiar with the differences between Wolf MT and Rem Golden. He's actually plugging away swaging primer pockets on 223 military brass to get ammo for his bolt gun(no free rides here :D) while I type this. Most of his time is at the local range where reactive targets are not allowed. He shoots sub 1/2" groups:) with premium ammo and 1.25":( with bulk. Like most kids that like to shoot that doesn't dampen his enthusiasm for going to the range but that's mainly because of his centerfire time with his 223 that he loads for.

Happily enough, for plinking needs, the Federal 550ct. bulk pack shoots almost as well as the "better" stuff I use for hunting. My old Marlin 60 is pretty fussy about function with any other ammo but the bulk Federal and CCI MiniMagHPs work fine in the old thing. My 10/22 shoots the bulk Federal passing well, too, and that saves the Power Points for squirrels. Danged old Marlin outshoots the 10/22 with what it likes, most of the time, it was my first rifle, so it isn't going anywhere.

Bulk Winchester and Remington stuff are a waste of time in those rifles, though. I'd rather not shoot 'em with those loads, especially the Remingtons.
