Has anyone tried the .17 tactical scope from Cabela's.The one that has the bullet drop turrets designed for the .17 ammo.I am thinking of trying one for my Savage heavy barrel rifle.
Thanks

Just an old guy and not trying to be a smartaXX but what value is a bullet drop anything on a limited range, flat shooter like the .17HMR..Cabela's claim of adjustments to 300 YARDS and BEYOND notwithstanding. Of course I killed the unluckiest prairie dog in KS at 208 yards with my .17HMR..and didn't hit him/her on the first few shots,LOL. YMMV.

the centerfire caliber, .223 Savage Model 12 that shoots the 60g Vmax. The ballistic cam for that bullet weight is off. I used modified labels glued to their cam to make my own. I have had to make my own "balistic cams" for all calibers. I do not buy the factory made ballistic reticles for the same reason. Unless, you have the right bullet, powder, etc. you will have to make some sort of correction to make them work. Hope this helps and saves you a few bucks. Dan

got the term "tactical" attached to it, it has got to be good.

Using the term tactical for anything related to handheld firearms is commical. Yes, even if you are in a SWAT team you practice tactics, but your harness/rifle/etc sure as heck isn't tactical.

Amen.....my comment regarding "tatical" was definitely tongue in cheek.
Recently saw the new "tatical knife" attached to a rail so it can be mounted to your handgun. I am anxiously awaiting the introduction of "tatical toilet paper."

I never tried one and doubt that I ever will. My personal oppenion ( Which with $ 1 will get you a cup of coffie.) is that you would be better off with a scope with target knobs and a range finder. Buy the best range finder you can afford and put target knobs on all of your rifles and work out dorp charts for each. You can get the charts worked out for you on line several different places, but you will then need to check them at the range. The one I ran for my .22-6mm was off 1/2 moa at 600 yrds. Not bad, but that`s 3 in. Then tape each chart to the stock of that rifle.

i have this scope...well kinda... i have the 6-18x in the pine ridge tactical rimfire..it is almost the same scope but comes with 5 different turrets for different rimfire calibers.
i love it...seems to be very accurate on my h&r sporter... but you must remember to shoot the vmax 17 grn for correct ballistics. not like that matter as there are only 3 current loads available anyway!
well made for the money and pretty clean glass..what you going to expect for 179 bucks? plus it has a lifetime warranty!
well worth it to me for a toy.

I love applying ballistic/rangefinding reticles for long-range shooting and rangefinding. From simple plex to Ballistic Plex it's all fun...IMO.
There are a lot of comps. nowadays that take the rimfires to 200 and 300 yds.
Here's the one i use on my Ruger Charger--

seems to be pretty accurate on my rifle but man that wind is tough with the 17!
