Headed out about 9am today to do some shooting and decided to bring two rifles, but I am only going to comment on the Savage Model 4C Deluxe that used to be my dads. Several years ago I couldn't get it to hit the side of a barn and decided to rebuild as much as I could. I found parts at Numrich and a few other places, decided to try my hand at custom painting and bought those supplies from Brownells, also bought from them a crowning tool which was wicked easy to use. I also bought some Marble adjustable sights for it and the finished product looked excellent. Today was the day I finally had time to take it out and shoot it. I was also trying some CCI CB Longs that several people of this board recommended as a quiet round to shoot. I set up at the range, placed a few targets at 25yds to get started and also put some out at 50yds for final sight in. Using the CCI CB Longs only, I was at the proper elevation and a tad to the right with the first 5 shots. After shooting the next 5 shots I had a nice group that really surprised me. I then went to 50yds and found I was dead on to the center of the bullseye. For the next 30-40 minutes I shot at cans, pieces of clay pigeons, spent shot gun shells, pine cones and other targets. Did I hit the target every time I pulled the trigger? Nope, but I hit often enough to be confident when I take it squirrel hunting this fall. This gun didn't shoot this accurately 30 years ago when I shot it often. Between the accuracy and the very low noise, it made for a very enjoyable and satisfying outing. The CCI CB Longs made less noise than my Beeman Kodial air rifle in 25cal! Thanks to those who recommended this ammo to me. One thing that I found out today was that the paint I got from Brownells that was supposed to be solvent resistant.... is not! I got home and used Wipe-Out and where some spilled on the painted/sealed stock ate right through the paint. Guess it will be time to find a more durable paint to use.

Here is a pic of the rifle after I finished the rebuild. It is nothing like it was originally, figured the rifle wasn't worth much (except sentimental value) and felt that I could not mess it up more than it already was in case my first attempt at gunsmithing went bad. The colors make it look like a toy gun especially if you see it in natural light. When I repaint the stock it will most likely be black or some sort of dark gray/charcol.
