Local gunshop finally got one of these in last week and after giving it a good going over, it came home with me. Mounted a spare scope on it and tried it out. After sighting it in, I put a full 25 round mag through one ragged hole at 25yards using the Fed. value pack shells. Smith has a winner with this one. Gonna try it at 50 and 75 yards with some better ammo in a few days.
on how things shake out. Interesting rifle, let us know if it shoots.

LOL...!! This tactical "stuff" in 22 LR is getting out of hand...
When the GSG-5 22 LR came out awhile back, I bit, and I have enjoyed shooting it a bunch. Last week I was in an Academy Sports Store near where I live, and they had the MP-15 22 LR on the shelf. I looked at it and left it there, but it ate on me all night.
So....the next day I went back and bought it. Like yours, mine shoots extremely well at 25 yards. So far I have only shot mine with the AR sights provided, but it is very accurate. It functions extremely well with a full 25-round magazine of 22 LR ammo, and it appears to be very well made.
Both the upper and the lower are made of a carbon fiber material. Externally, they look just like AR uppers and lowers, but internally they function differently so they are not adaptable to interchange with regular AR uppers and lowers.
I hope this is the end of this kind of "stuff" showing up.... In addition, Academy also had the Colt made AR version in 22 LR on the shelf, but the S&W rifle just seemed to be heads above it in quality and the way it functioned.
I have no plans to get one of the Colts, but that's' just me. Others might like it.....

Although I havent tried anything yet, the guys on Rimfire Central are saying that all AR-15 external options and the triggers are compatable with the Smith. I don't think the uppers and lowers will interchange, but most everything else will such as stocks, forearms, sights, and aftermarket triggers will. The Smith also has its own mag. I ordered two extras from Smith at $20.04 each.

I agree that it looks like the trigger, sights, mag release, bolt carrier stop/release, etc. will interchange with original parts. But neither complete uppers or lower completes will. For example, there is no buffer tube and spring on the lower receiver and the RF buffer hits against the solid surface where the face of the buffer is in a real AR-15. And the charging handle is different in how it engages the RF bolt carrier...
LOL...!! After shooting mine, I ordered two extra mags from S&W also...same price... They should be here early this week...

these things are selling like crazy.
this ain't gonna help the supply catching up with demand on 22 ammo. You cant find any of the valueboxes around here anywhere. WallyWorld said they would be getting a shipment today. I called at lunch and they said they didn"t have them on the truck and didn't know when they would get more.

There must still be some regional shortages...
Along the Texas Gulf coast (Houston area) where I live, I have been able to buy 22 LR ammo without any problems for about the past two months...

I got to look at a Colt a while back at Billings MT Cabelas, looked like it might be fun but I can have more fun with something else for the money. Not a round of .22 to be had in this area (Wyoming) except for very expensive target stuff. Wallyworld has been out for about 9 months now.

IMO, the S&W is heads and shoulders above the Colt in quality. And where I bought mine, the S&W was $50 cheaper than the Colt.
Those two things made making a choice extremely easy for me. I like my GSG-5 a bunch, but being an AR fan, this rifle feels very "familiar" when shooting it.
Like I mentioned, 22 LR ammo is in good supply here. And the last I bought about a week ago for plinking was $15 for 550 rounds of Federal. It functions very well in both the S&W and the GSG-5 and it shoots well in both rifles accuracy wise...

BCB did you find the S&W or the GSG-5 more accurate?

So, if you drag a guy down this tactical .22lr path, what is he to do with all his 10/22s? Just kidding. :) I'm not much on tactical looking stuff, even with my ARs. I know it's getting big on rimfire central, it just doesn't tickle my fancy. It sounds like they are beginning to make some guns that have "the look" and also perform well. That's a good thing!
