Friend picked up a used 52 Sporter Japanese Repro a few months back and has not done anything with it . He went to shoot it a few days ago , and could not insert the Bolt . It would not go in no matter what he tried , and he says he does not see any sort of external Bolt release . He does not have the Instruction Manual . I will be seeing him in about 2 weeks and would like to help him out . I would like to know : 1. How do you insert the Bolt ? 2. Once the Bolt is in , how do you get it out ?

I supose reversing this procedure would allow one to insert a bolt. Good luck.

Removing the bolt from a 52 B Winchester

1. the firing mechanism must be uncocked before thebolt can be removed. With the rifle fully unloaded and pointed in a safe direction, close the bolt the uncock the bolt by dry firing the rifle

2. With the bolt now uncocked, insert your finger behind the trigger and push it forward. You must push the trigger before you open the bolt or the bolt will not release

3. While still pushing forward on the trigger, open the bolt, and pull the bolt rearward out of the receiver.

Te re-insert the bolt

4. To insert the bolt the safety must be place in the “off safe” position.

5. The front and rear portions of the bolt must aligned properly before it can be inserted. The bolt handle [and connected locking surface] can rotate with respect to the bolt body itself. If not already in alignment the parts must be realigned. To do this:

a. Take the end of the bolt body in one hand and the bolt handle in the other

b. Twist the handle to align the top and bottom pointers on the schroud with the grooves cut in the bolt. The top groove is on the polished portion of the top lug. The bottom groove is on the rear of the bottom lug.

6. Align the end of the bolt in the rear opening of the receiver.

7. While pulling the trigger, push the bolt forward and shove it in the receiver, past the point where it is stopped by the sear. This may take a little force, but not too much. Optional: The sear can be depressed with a screwdriver for eaiser insertion. This makes it much easier to insert the bolt.

8. Release the trigger and rotate the bolt handle down to lock it.
