If I'm not mistaken the 280 in that Mod. (725) is one of the more desirable Remingtons but then I've been wrong before. Doug

Quite a few years back I got a virtually new 700 in 7mm Express. Reason? No ammo on the shelfs. Guess it`s worth a bunch now.
Aloha, Mark

Of all the pre-700 variants out there, primarily the 722's and Model 78's, the 725 has some collector value. As in there are guys that specificaly search these out. In the 725 series the 280 is one of the rarest and brings considerably more than the more common chamberings. With these it's all about originality and condition and I'm sure you will get some interest here on it. I would put it on GB with a high reserve before someone talks you out of it for cheap.

I found a 725 in .244 at a yard sale that had been stored in a wood shed for years. The barrel and stock were shot and unusable. I cleaned and polished the action and had it re-blued, some pitting on the off hand side. I chambered in it .260 Remington and have to say it is the smoothest Remington I have ever cycled. The accuracy was top's the only thing I did was mill cut for a Jewell trigger. Hang on to it they are an excellent action.

There were approx. 16,700 725's made, most of these were 30-06. Of the remaining rifles built they were scattered in 222, 243, 244, 270, and 280 with the 270 being the next most in qtys built. Here's a link to a nice 243 on GB, it's pushing almost $1,300.00 with 14 hrs left, there are 5 guys bidding on it. If I would have to guess I would say the number of 280's built is probably less than a 1000. I've never seen one in person but I stood next to a couple of guys at the Tulsa gunshow as they paid 1000.00 for a 244 that I would grade at 60% and you would have thought they had won the lottery.

That 243 Rem 725 sold for $1,617.00

There is 7 m/m express ammo available, it's called .280 Rem. The 7 m/m express name didn't last long. There were also a few marked 7 m/m- 06 but they are really rare.
