Anybody remember a device where you put a couple of probes into the ground and ran a bit of electicity through them to bring nightcrawlers to the surface? Is there still such a beast and if so, does it really work? Thanks. Russ:D

2 12"-14" brass or whatever rods with electrical cord attached one lead to each rod and a bit of rubber over the power end of the rods. Wet the ground with a garden sprinkler and the put the rods in the ground a few feet apart. plug in the power and instant worm getter. Haven't done this for many years but it does work and well, the worms just cant wait to get out.

i recall using powdwewd mustard and water mix poured on the ground brought them up. also, the old crank phone generators were effective. guess i am dated, using mustard gas and DC current.

My Dad made a "getter" out of one steel rod with a ball bat handle and a long HD electric cord attached. Only one wire was soldered to the rod. We plugged it in and would stick it in the ground. If we felt it "vibrate" it was connected right, if not we would turn the plug around and try it again. After a couple minutes in the ground the 'crawlers would come up. We always wore rubber boots and NEVER touched the steel rod. Safety first!

single rod device. Someone made it for me some 45yrs ago, and does it ever work. The neat part is you can get worms from all around your house and never have to disturb the ground.

Finished making my "getter" today and tried it tonight. Haven't had that much fun since the hogs ate my brother!! Worms fighting each other to see who gets out first! Hitching rides with the Robins or anything else coming by. Several of them getting together trying to pull the plug out of the socket. Not quite that bad, but it is sure a winner. Thanks for the tips all. I'll think of you when I'm slurping my next Walleye down!!:D Russ

me and my brothers used to use the electric rod method..The worms don't seem to live as long tho if you plan on keeping them more than a day

I believe we used to use a crank generator and a rod. I think it was something out of an old crank telephone. Anyway it worked. Might have been a crank meggar.
