I cannot express how much I HATE this type of format!!!http://forums.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/cuss.gif It isn't just the GGVG, but many boards use this POS!! http://forums.corvetteforum.com/images/smilies/mad5.gif What grinds on me most is the inability to see all the thread contributors/responses - the "more replies below" about makes me want to throw something!!

Well, I suppose being shackled to a dial up speed has a lot to do with it, but there ya go. IF I were a computer geek, I'd write my own web software that would emulate the old GGVG format. Damn but I hate this format!!!!!!

Paul I'd have to say that because of one and only one feature I like the new format better you can edit your posts. Remember that one little almost non liveable problem we had with the old board?

I agree with you about the "more replies below". How stupid that is. Kinda removes the whole idea of "threaded mode"

I kinda liked the old format better. It seems like there's less new stuff on it now. I have this as my home page and I find myself checking the classifieds and then moving on to other websites

Interesting. I actually like the format. When I come in I just hit "new posts" and everything I've missed during the day or whatever shows up. I read the ones I have an interest in and pass on the rest. The "more replies" feature isn't all that great, but it's not a problem either. I've notice the benchrest central has a similar "new posts" feature and have started using it there as well. Different strokes.

I like it also. Like stated by Greyfox, I just hit 'new posts' and get what I haven't seen yet.

You do realize that the old format had this exact same option, right? There was a list box at the top of the page, and the choices were:

"Posts made since last visit"
"Posts made within the last 1.5 hours",
"Posts made within the last 3 hours",
"Posts made within the last 6 hours,
"Posts made within the last 12 hours",
"Posts made today".

Every time someone complained about technical/varminting subjects getting pushed to the 2nd page by "OT" or "Good Morning" posts I'd point this out, but the next time the subject came up the same people would be griping about it again. It wasn't you guys, so please don't take it personally - it just turned into a pet peeve of mine.

Just for the record, I'm not a big fan of the new software, and I think it has resulted in less people posting and me doing less reading here. It does have some advantages, one of which is there can be LOTS and LOTS of history, and searches will still be very quick. I also like the PM capability.

The only plus feature is being able to edit. If it was not for the OT section of this board there wouldnot be a lot going on. There is just not the number of posters using this format as was the old one.

I look in from time to time but I get bored with the format quickly and move on to the television set. I just hate click intensive, its boring especially with a dial up. This is the first post I have made in months and to be honest I have lost interest because of the format. It is out of our hands though and it looks like we are stuck with it along with fewer posts with meat.

I don't have a clue what y'all are talking about when you refer to "More Replies". When I look at a thread, all the replies are in threaded mode, I can just scroll right down and look at them all. After a certain point, they move to a subsequent page, but that too is threaded.

Where is this "more replies" you're referring to?

Incidentally, this is how I have my display options setup. You can change them under the USER CP link, and then click on Edit Options.

I have not been following this closely so if I this is a repeat then disregard.
But to get all the replies threaded on one page you have to be logged in. At least I have not been able to do it unless logged in. That may be what is catching folks at different times.

I do not login unless I plan to reply or post most of the time.

Anyway, hope you and yours are doing well. Happy New Year,

And I strongly suspect therein lies the problem. For instance, as I type this, the front page show

90 users currently online
29 registered
61 guests.

My guess is that at least 40 of those "visitors" are registered also, but lurking either from work computers, or just dont have much to say or post, or do not want their name posted in the "Online Now" status, for whatever personal reason. And I know as a guest, this site is a more difficult place to navigate than the old board, the old one never cared if you were logged in or not, nothing seemed to change. My answer is stay logged in, if you can.

Last time I lost the hard drive and took a while to buy a new computer, I missed several good Personal Messages that did not have any other contact info of me, and it caused concern for them. When I would check the board from other computers, I never thought to log in to SEE if there were any messages for me, since the old board did not offer that feature.

Anyway, I have grown to like it a little more than a year ago. fwiw

transition to where I wasn't "remembering the good ol' board". I DO like the fact, which was already mentioned, that we have a LOT of history available. I find that handy instead of it being lost and gone forever when it fell off after 12-13 pages. The PM's are nice also. And yes the editing feature is very worthwhile. Couple of times I would bang something out, post then read it and realize it may be construed wrong.

Been missing your posts Chris..........and yes, dial up can make anything aggravating. In this case the dial up is the messenger and SHOULD be shot and not the message.

I have the same thing and to Dr Bubba and whoever, I am logged in.

If you click "Display Modes" then click "Hybred" or "Threaded" the threading will show and when a branch has a certain amount of replies, the last link in the branch will be: "More replies below current depth..." Once that is clicked on it opens all the branch allowing that branch to be ready to click

Mike

Try using "Linear - oldest first"... that's what I use. When a certain number of posts are reached, it has a link to the next page.

But in that mode there is no way to know what post a response is to. For instance your post to me here, I would have no idea who you were responding to without looking at the threading.

I was not talking about the listing of the threads. I have not found out how to unroll the More Replies without clicking on them. But what I meant was if logged in I could scroll all the posts which are now unrolled in the thread...the actual posts themselves.

I am not real happy with this format either but almost everyone is using one like it. So I do not complain. Mike and John have been great all these years and continue to do a great job. If it was not this it would be something else. I am happy it is here at all. :)
