Is there some way to tighten the clip or do something so it isn't such a pain to close the bolt?

The rail that the magazine rides on has probably moved forward some causing the front of the magazine to be too high. Take the action out of the stock and bend the rail back a bit and then check for your bolt closing. It doesn't take much to knock the rail into or out of alignment. The extra length of the magazine hanging down below the stock gives just enough leverage to bend the rail when pushing the magazine home. A shortened 5 round magazine will help cure that problem.
