Default how do you end a crappy week?

With crappie of course. . Rough work week. Long hours at both jobs and it's not over yet. Still have to work tomorrow at the gun shop and cover a gun bingo Sunday. About 3pm today I figured I had enough. Left and stopped by the gunship for my paycheck. It was a beautiful day, sunny and 75. Seeing the fishing stuff I had an idea. Sue didn't get off until 5:30 and I had about an hour to kill. Hurried home and grabbed a rod and some tackle, jumped on the 4 wheeler and ran down the road to the neighbor's pond.

First cast with a beetlespin topped with a twister tail.

A short storm rolled in while I was there, but I took cover under a pine tree and it quickly passed. Ended up with four nice crappie and a small bass in about an hour.

Here's a few more.

Threw them back for another day. I know...they are dang good to eat. LOL

Great way to end the work week, Charlie! I love catching crappie and big bluegill on ultralight spinning rigs. Beetle Spins and Roadrunners are great, but I'm kind of partial to Rooster Tails, usually chartreuse or white.

Thanks for the tip Mike. I use roostertails in the spring for BIG spawning largemouths. White chartreuse or yellow. Yellow seems to work best. An I use the big ones, number 2's I think. I bet I've only caught 20 crappie in my lifetime. We just don't have many up here. A few lakes around do, but usually only 6-9" fish. I stopped by this pond once to talk to a guy and he was yanking them out left and right. Just a small pond, maybe 3 acres? Obviously stocked with them at some point. And big ones. These were nice fish today, the third pic was a good 12" long. The one Lillie caught last year dwarfed it.

I think you ought to catch a few more of those and figure out a way to put them on the smoker.......

Those are some beauties!

What is this "threw them back for another day" that you speak of?

They are starting to bite around here and a buddy dropped of a ziplock bag of fillets late yesterday afternoon. Its killing me not getting to go with them but my Wife is on anti-rejection meds and I'm trying to stay out of harms way.
