Did anyone save all that 22 Hornet info? If so please send it to me.
I know there was a ton of info on the Hornet in the last year or so, and I have to beat a dead horse....but I didn't have a hornet at the time, so I wasn't paying attention.
If I'd have known I'd own a Hornet, I would've saved those threads.
All I can remember is Lil'gun and good crimp.

My brother gave me his old Ruger #3 with a Leo 3-9x.
I shot my first test rounds today using old WW brass, Rem 6 1/2, and Sierra 45gr hornet bullets. Test loads were 12.0/12.3/12.6/12.8. (I sure ran out of room for powder in a hurry.) It was about 30*F and had about 5-10mph head-on wind. The first three (5-shot) groups were over an inch, but the last group I could completely cover with a dime. I can't imagine the gun being that finicky, so I blame my bench technique and shivering. Maybe the wind blew them into one ragged hole, I don't know. I do know I'll be real happy if I can repeat this group when the snow stops falling and the wind lays down.

My brother probably hadn't shot this gun since the late '80s, and when he gave it to me he said he was never impressed with the accuracy. I'm thinking he just never took the time to coax performance out of her.

Is the Lee Factory Crimp die sensitive to case length? (I know the RCBS roll crimp is.....)

I'll appreciate any inputs
thanks in advance

Re: .22 Hornet

Kyle,
Not sure what others do, but I use 35 gr V-Max bullets atop 14.0 grs of Lil Gun, with CCI 400SR primer. I have not shot thru croney yet, but estimate velocity at around 3000fps. I consistently get 3 shots touching at 100 yards. I shoot a CZ.
Good Luck to ya,
Drew

V-max bullet

Kyle, You got to remember that when your brother was shooting it in the 80's the bullet and powder selection was limited. Now we have a bunch to choose from. I have owned everything in a hornet from a 1885 Low wall, NEF, Savage 340, 342 and currently have the Savage Model 40. All I have have shot in them are the 35 gr v-max with IMR4227 or Lil Gun and the accurracy was good in all of them. THe v-max bullet has really changed the way most cartridges shoot and preform. Kyle,
PM me an email addy and I'll send you a bit of "harvested" data in a word file. I just picked up a Bullberry Contender barrel this year and started working on loads. Got the barrel, done the loads, haven't been to the range. Doesn't look good this weekend here in Colorado.

same set up

I have the same rifle and scope you have, 13gr LilGun,40gr V-Max,Rem 6 1/2 primers works great. I tried the pistol primers in mine but the 6 1/2's work better. As for the Lee crimp die, it is not as sensitive as the RCBS seating die.

I found that LilGun really settles down with a 45-gr bullet in the Hornet. My "magic" recipe (which has been quoted on a lot of boards) is: WW brass, Rem 6 1/2 (or CCI500) primer, 13.0 LilGun, 45 Nosler Solid Base and a moderate Lee FCD crimp. I get 2800 fps, very low deviation, 0.6" groups in a Browning Micro-Medallion rifle that simply does not like to miss.
