Did anyone save all that 22 Hornet info? If so please send it to me.
I know there was a ton of info on the Hornet in the last year or so, and I have to beat a dead horse....but I didn't have a hornet at the time, so I wasn't paying attention.
If I'd have known I'd own a Hornet, I would've saved those threads.
All I can remember is Lil'gun and good crimp.
My brother gave me his old Ruger #3 with a Leo 3-9x.
I shot my first test rounds today using old WW brass, Rem 6 1/2, and Sierra 45gr hornet bullets. Test loads were 12.0/12.3/12.6/12.8. (I sure ran out of room for powder in a hurry.) It was about 30*F and had about 5-10mph head-on wind. The first three (5-shot) groups were over an inch, but the last group I could completely cover with a dime. I can't imagine the gun being that finicky, so I blame my bench technique and shivering. Maybe the wind blew them into one ragged hole, I don't know. I do know I'll be real happy if I can repeat this group when the snow stops falling and the wind lays down.
My brother probably hadn't shot this gun since the late '80s, and when he gave it to me he said he was never impressed with the accuracy. I'm thinking he just never took the time to coax performance out of her.
Is the Lee Factory Crimp die sensitive to case length? (I know the RCBS roll crimp is.....)
I'll appreciate any inputs
thanks in advance
Kyle
