I just bought a 28" barrel with 1-10 twist in 243. Do you guys think it will stabilize 100 grain bullets good or should I drop to 80's. I have alot of 100 grain and 95 grain I could load. My Ruger #1 varmit in 6mm rem shoots 100's really well but I'm thinking that might be 1-9 --if I remember. Oh my this age thing stinks.

My guess from past experience says no on the 100 Gr. bullet. Maybe on the 95 Gr. bullet. More than likely you'll be looking at 90's and smaller.

Think mine are 1-9 but try them before you give up on them.

I have a 243 with a 1 in 10 and it shoots 95gr Ballistic Tips and 100gr Sierra Spire Boattails really well. No stablization issues at all to 400 yds. Furthest I have shot it. I use 44gr of IMR-7828 for both bullets.

243 and 100+ gr bullets

A 10 twist is fairly common and will stabilize most older versions of bullets and some of the new ones. Round nose, soft points, point soft points, spire points generally work well. Anything that has a high copper content or a long nose will be problematic. The 100 gr Speer Grandslam and 105 gr AMAX probably won't (didn't in my 9.125 twist). If the bullet is about the length of those two then they probably won't work either.

I have a 10 twist and it stabilizes Sierra 107s and Berger 105s just fine all the way to 1,000yds...

The 115s keyhole past 100yds though.

All Winchester Model 70's had a 1-10 twist.....

maybe that may answer some of your questions. I shot several 70's with the Hornady 100g BTSP and they shot like a house a fire with Max loads of IMR 4350. I can't say about the other bullets, have no experience with them in a 10 twist.

I did shoot the 12 twist with a 100g Sierra Semi Point that worked just fine to my amazement in a 244 Remington. The bullet is no longer made but they do show up from time to time on ebay.
