Started playing with BVSS stock on the 12 FV. It looks like it would benefit from a skim bedding aroind the pillars, at the back of the lub and the tang. The tang area is a concern because of the small area. Should I bed enough to give it support withthe action screws tightened down or just let it float. Please provide some the the vast experience from the is bors to get this puppie up and running. Good and bad. It all helps.

Thanx all.

How does it shoot now?

If the rifle is shooting 3/8" to 5/8" groups now I would not mess with it. I have owned many savage rifles and tried bedding a few synthetic stocks and some of the laminated ones. Only one ever showed any increase in accuracy from the factory stock.

Unless the rifle is not shooting well I would not add any bedding.

None of my savages are bedded at the tang, only the pillars and around the action. Based on my reading of everything I can find about the Savage line, the tang should not be bedded. I put 3-4 layers of blue tape under mine to be sure that it clears while doing the bedding. Can't tell you why its not bedded, though.
