in general terms, (rule of thumb) are boat tail bullets more accurate than flatbase bullets, and are ballistic tip more arrurate than hollow points and soft points?
With so many .224 bullets out there a guy could spend lots of $$ looking for the right bullet and end up with several boxes of not so accurate bullets.
Looking to start off in the right direction w/o buying alot of different bullets. Looking for accuracy in a .223 1/12 twist. Allso would 60 to 70 gr bullets stablize in this slow twist barrel? I have finally got 55 gr bullets to group really well with BLC-2.

Thanks for the help

I'm sure you'll get more..

accurate advice, but I'll give you what I have.

I've not seen any benchrest (short range) bullets that weren't flat based.
In my experience, ballistic tips are more accurate than soft points, but less than match grade hollow points.

You might get 60gr to stabilize, but I doubt you'll get the 70gr to do so.

If you are looking for the best in accuracy (paper) Id suggest you contact Bart's Bullets and get some of the 52gr Zia bullets he now has. I've shot a bushel of these through the same barrel you have and if they won't shoot, I doubt you'll get anything to.

BLc-2 will work, but there are others that will do better. If you have some W748 or some N-133 give either of those a try.

If you need a few of the Zia bullets send me your mailing address by private message and I'll mail you a few to try.

Yes and no

The gun will decided what it likes. One guys pet load may be a good starting point but YOUR gun may hate it.I load boatail bullets because they load lots easier for me. I have one 243 that loves 70 gr BlitzKings but the other one will not shoot them.It like flat bases.
Benchrest bullets are mostly(I can't say all cuz someone will have a fit) Flat base.

I used to dislike trying multiple bullets and having extra boxes of this and that bullet that did not shoot well leftover. But I have found that eventually they come full circle and I'm glad I have them in my Inventory to try with a new gun, load,Barrel brake in or etc.!!
