According to Mayor Rom Emanuel and other colored officials the answer to the problem is More Gun Control.
Did anyone think the colored street Thugs might be responsible??
Maybe the answer is More Bullets.

At least 40 shot and four killed in a night of Chicago gun violence
AOL.COM 22 mins ago
Aug 5 (Reuters) - At least 40 people were shot in Chicago over the weekend during the seven hours from midnight Saturday to early Sunday morning, with four fatalities, city police said on Sunday, a stark violent streak in a city where authorities say gun violence has been decreasing this year.

"These were both random and targeted shootings on our streets," said Fred Waller, Chief of the Patrol Division of the Chicago Police Department, in a press conference.

He said most of the shootings are connected to gang violence in the city of about 2.7 million people, the third-largest in the United States.

Police said gunmen targeted a block party, a gathering after a funeral, and other gatherings on a night where thousands of people gathered for a downtown concert.

Local media reported that the brunt of the violence happened in the city's West Side, where 25 people were shot in separate attacks.

Waller touted that shootings in 2018 were down from last year.

The Chicago Tribune, which has been tracking shooting statistics, reported earlier this month that shootings in the city have declined, with 533 fewer shootings as of Aug. 1 than the same time in 2017.

"By no means do these statistics show that we have a victory," Waller said.

He said that police are working with other law enforcement groups to target gang activity.

"I promise we will not be defeated," Waller said.

More specifics on the shootings were not immediately available late on Sunday.

They like to claim that the guns used in these shootings come from Indiana gun shows. They have an abundance of thugs and an over-abundance of ignorance. Indy thugs are working hard to catch up but we are minor league compared to Chicago.

Wtf

This from today's Washington Post regarding firearm penalties in the city.
The District now is less safe, thanks to guidelines from the District of Columbia Sentencing Commission that took effect in July. The commission voted to decrease sentences for felons convicted of illegally possessing a gun in the District and to reduce the impact of prior felon-in-possession convictions on any future sentence an offender might incur. Repeat offenders who have committed gun crimes will be back on the street sooner, once again endangering our community

Is There a Problem?

The City of Chicago, Peoples' Republic of Illinois, has been CONROLLED by Democrats since at least the 1890's as has all of Cook County! That's over 125 years of incompetence!! True Democratic leadership!! WHAT do you expect; someone who knows what the heck is going on? Over 40 shot and only 4 dead in seven hours is some rather poor shooting!! 10%? It's a good thing the dumb bunnies don't realize how to properly hold a gun instead of turning it on it's side! Then their casualty rates would go up! They're too dumb to realize the relationship of gun sights to the gun being in it's proper vertical position to utilize those sights! Send 'em some more ammo!

Yeah, I know, it's Trump's fault isn't it?

Your numbers are from fairly early this morning, JR. The count according to CNN is now 66 shot and 12 dead, which is a much better percentage. Not great, but better.

I pity the poor bastards who signed up to be Chicago cops. I mean how can that possibly be a smart career decision? Of course they may be making $300k a year, what with the lucrative overtime. Look what a quick Google search turned up from 2017.

KF, but that only includes the W-2 reported income. God only knows what they make under the table........
I know I'm the one who took a step in that direction, but let's tread lightly, TM. We have good friends here on the board who are current or retired LEOs. It's just like any profession, it only takes a few sketchy ones and they all get labeled.

$99,811 dollars a year for a police officer? Damn....
I doubt if I made $20 g. Back in another lifetime.

Wait, what?

More gun control? I thought only crooks were allowed to have guns in Chicago.

More gun control? Use both hands!

So, the powers that be don't want their own PD to do their jobs, because they're too tough on the urban youts that are out killing each other. But, they whine about their murder rates, and want Trump to wave his magic wand and make the crime go away. Sounds just like Baltimore; they crucify the cops every time they do their jobs, and then complain when they don't/won't. If I were a cop in either city, I would be actively searching for a job nearly anywhere else!

No sweat from this former Indy LEO with the suggestion that CPD officers might be realizing extra income under the table. After all, it is Chicago and that was rumored to be SOP there long after it stopped most everywhere else. Rumors were it was happening on a very small scale in Indy in the late 60s when I started my career. Rumors!

Thanks for your insight, Doug. I did not mean to discredit any normal LEO's, but the corruption in most areas of municipal services and administration around Cook County is well known. My parents lived in Illinois (outside of Chicago) when I was a kid, so we were well aware of it.

Also, the violence has not been a new thing. My best friend from high school went to Northwestern. His girlfriend was a student teacher in one of the Chicago city schools and when he picked her up after school on the last day of class, she came out running. She yelled "Go, Go, get out of here." Turns out some of the 'kids' were unhappy with their grades and brought guns to school if they didn't get what they wanted. That occurred in 1970.

Some of the extra income for police may be ending here in Louisville. The school district has been hiring trained law enforcement officers as "school resource officers." My understanding is that it's a full-time job, so I don't know if they take a leave of absence from the PD or what. Anyway, there were some major "scuffles" last year in which some of the school resource officers were nearly overpowered and ended up Tasing and arresting students. I guess the parents and school board didn't like that response, so now they're proposing that the district train its own security force and use them as "school resource officers" instead of hiring real cops. I'd bet good money that these new security officers will be totally unarmed and they obviously won't have arrest powers. So, you tell me who won this battle, certainly not the parents and taxpayers who are tired of the internal violence in our schools.

Yup

Correct, Rick. The corruption in Chicago extends beyond government as well. My son is a construction manager and a few years ago built an LA Fitness on the southside of Chicago. Some of the union trades were so bad that, after he finished that job, he quit a nicely paid position rather than build another one his employer won the bid on in Chicago. Like every big city, Chicago has areas you don't want to drive through, let alone live in.

By the way, the pay for a Class A (3rd year) patrolman in Indy is now about $70K. A number of policemen and firefighters are making more than the mayor but none of them approach $200K.
