This may have been discussed before so here goes. A friend purchased two of the CZ's in 17 Mach II and is having trouble with the cases splitting when it is fired. Is this the norm for a CZ chamber or is it the brass. He was using CCI and Hornady ammo. Anyone else experienced this and is it something to be concerned about? He says the sound on firing is different when the case splits. Thanks.

I don't have a CZ in 17M2 but do have a Savage MK-II in 17M2. I have also experienced many split cases with both Hornady and CCI stamped cases. If you or your friend will visit rimfirecentral.com you'll find that this is unfortunately not unusual. There are multiple threads regarding this. My recent purchase of Federal stamped Mach2 ammo (1000rds) has not (yet) shown any split cases. The only thing I can add is that is does not seem to cause accuracy issues. My cheapy MK-II still shoots great even with the cases that split. I personally worried (perhaps needlessly) that the hot gases blowing through the side of the case would erode the chamber walls and and cause extraction issues, however after many thousands of rounds down the barrel it still functions fine.
