Ive actually got a really good amount of .22 ammo , plemty of HMR and about 1.5 cases of HM2. Way more than I have had in a long, long time and enough to last for quite a while. It's a good feeling.

Up until this last shortage, I usually kept only a couple boxes "at the ready", and depended on the local stores for resupply. Not anymore... For the first time ever I've stocked up and have on hand more 22 ammo than I've ever had at one time.

However, a significant amount of the last shortage was due to hoarding! I hate hoarding when it creates a shortage in and of itself: prices skyrocket IF you can even find "it". But, when does accumulating prudent reserves cross the line to become hoarding?

IMHO if you are stocking up now - in a time of plenty - it is simply being prepared. Stocking up when the supply/availability is very limited is hoarding.

That is just my opinion. Perhaps because I have used this opportunity in a time of plenty to stock up. Like Paul I now have more .22, .17HMR & .17HM2 than I have ever had at one time.

Next will be 9mm .45acp & .223. And I won't consider that hoarding either when I hear & read all the whining from people who can't find any and blame all the hoarders. Because that time will come. It always does. We just can't predict when. But I will be prepared. Because I already am. ;)

Makes a lot of sense to me too. Attaining a "carry-over" amount, based on the length of past or anticipated shortage periods vs. established usage rates would define the "line" between prudence and hoarding. (Hoarding, I think most agree, is bad for all of us. NO??)

I have a "good deal" of .22LR, .17HMR and .22WMR on hand (and everything centerfire is well-stocked, too). On election day 2016, I went and bought a case of Aguila ammo, which had proven accurate in my rifles (Danged good stuff, in my rifles anyway). Later, I noticed Midsouth had it on sale, and I bought another case (I didn't want the first case to get lonely). I also have a good stash of CCI Blazers and MiniMags, too.
I was stuck with Federal Automatch and Winchester 555 during the shortage in the last administration, and decided that I didn't want to get caught short of good ammo ever again. Those last two are NOT 'good ammo'.

I have enough hunting ammo to last a long time, but "shootin' ammo" is something you can't have too much of.
