Are Savage bolt heads softer than say a Remington bolt face? I get pits on every Savage .223 sized bolt head face no matter if it's a .223, .204 or the .20 Tac. I have Remingtons in these same calibers and no pitting on the bolt faces.

Only rifles of any make that I've ever had any pitting with were ones where I had been blowing primers.... and that's really "gas cutting"... not pitting.

I have a slew of both Remington and Savage rifles.

I stand corrected, gas-cutting it is, but I'm not blowing primers and I'm more or less using the same loads in both types of rifles.
