Sight in days. father and son team showed up with a Kimber 84 M with Leupold 4 x 12. Nice rifle and scope. He had a box of Whitetail in 129 grain. Did not shoot well. I got about 4 inches at 100. He gave me the side eye and said his friend said it should be one hole all day. Well it wasn't. I asked what twist, he had no idea. He didn't t/t Kimber either. I doubt he read the instruction book. I gave him a rest set up and my spotting scope. He was at about 5 inches. I check all mounts and screws, stock and scope. All good.
I suggested he try something around 140 grain as that is what I shoot in my 6.5 Swede. He kept arguing but left for Wal Mart and came back. I was tied up with another shooter. He had some Federal Fusion in 139 or 140 and something Remington. He went to another shooter and gave him the 129 grain. Guess what? 4 inches @ 100.
I t/t to the other shooter later. The 140's did the trick. I guess the Kimber guy didn't want to deal with me any more. We talk, are polite and they do not listen. Too much testosterone is not a good thing. He was determined to use the 129's come hell or high water. By the way, I checked the Kimber site. The twist is 1:8.
Endless entertainment at public sight in days.

That is the problem with a lot of people today, they think they know everything about everything and the truth is they know everything about nothing. And on top of that whatever is said by their buddy or whatever they read on the internet is gospel. The older I get the more I just keep my mouth shut, just listen and try not to laugh.

What I always have hated about deer season was all the once a year hunters are out, they don't shoot all year long and some of them have no clue.

One issue we have to deal with as we hold sight in days for the public is how to explain why their old thunder stick (or they) can't likely make a killing shot on a deer at 100 yards. And do it in a manner that does not piss them off.

By the way, the dude is hunting NY state this weekend! You might want to get a flak jacket and not wear any brown. Or like me with a full head of white hair, get a long hat on. The hair makes me look like a deer running away and invites a head shot from some nimrod.

We on this board get pretty spoiled - as most of us understand balistics, twist rates, etc., etc.

In the short time I worked in a gun shop, there was maybe 1 in 20 shooters that had any idea about sights trajectory, bullet selection...you name it!

I bore-sighted a new scope on a new (to him) rifle and explained what he had to do to "zero" it.

I was waiting on another customer when he came it - all pissed off and complaining to the owner/manager and pointing in my direction. His complaint was how he paid for a scope and to have it mounted and if THAT was all the better "he" (me) could mount a scope, to be sure "he" doesn't touch his rifle anymore and demanded the owner bore site it again!

I wanted to jump over the counter and clock the SOB!
