Shooters started gathering in around 9:00 a.m. sunday morning. It was a very windy morning but after lunch the wind gods gave us a slight reprieve and about 4:00 she died completely. Doc stone and his nephew-in-law Todd from celina, junebug from Gordonsville, Greyfox from Goodlettsville, John Kruzan from Defeated, tn. who is retired from Ducks Unlimited and living on cordell hull lake, and Tim Hewitt from lafayette, tn. were shooters.
One neighbor lady came by and requested that someone come over to her house and put a dog down. seems her father had cranked his small plane and the dog had jumped into the propeller. It did a job on his left jaw.
a total of seven shooters and a few visitors dropped by. some of the calibers were 6-284, 6 br, 25 br, 22-250, custom 7 wsm, 222 rem mag, and tac 20. The who knows what other wildcat greyfox would have pulled out of his suburban but we flat ran out of daylight. the conversation continued until 6:00 before everyone left.
we shot eggs at 300 yd. and 336 yd. A prarie dog was swinging at 400 and at 500 was a swinging groundhog. Todd had a new 25 br and center punched the 500 yd. sighter with his first shot at 500 yd. He was shooting 87's and i shot 87 v-max in my 12 twist 6 br Mike bryant. Doc reached 500 with his 13 twist speedy 6 br. Those 336 yd. eggs were much easier in the afternoon when the wind died.
A great time was had by all, and i hope to have another shoot real soon. Maybe next weekend. Three 6 br.s were on the line and one 25 br.
This was real world shooting with prarie type winds. You had to know your clicks up and how to handle wind. Those eggs made for challenging shooting. These guys were prarie dog shooters and believe me they knew how to handle wind. The egg racks had to be replenished several times. the old praried dog and the ground hog had a very hard day, taking many hits. the 7 wsm with 180 bergers hit very hard.

The Ole Birdog Range=best Host around

Well to say We had a great time yesterday @ The Birdog Shooting Pleasure Dome would be a gross understatement.. We had a major blast..I am very impressed w/ the shooting of all there =as BD said the winds were 20mph + and swirling until last 45 minutes before dark..Nothing was safe out to 500 yds. as We all honed our drop charts for real world PD ing and BD's life sized Ground hog and PD took a major whooping. The BR family continues to impress in all calibers(6BR, 25BR 30BR) just seems to be so very forgiving..I took my Speedy 6BR to 500 yds. w/80 gr Fowlers in high winds w/ good % of hits, Todd L.'s 25BR really made a showing w/ 87 Bergers good to 500 yds also. At one point Todd made 7 of 8 eggs @ 336 yds. in wind..Junebug's 7WSM =Cris Mathews rifle is a boomer and super accurate as He shot a 1/2 group @ 300 yds( no slouch).. The ole BD was on the point again w/ his Mike Bryant 6BR as He wore out the eggs and gongs at all ranges, Grey Fox was his usual self shooting exotic calibers and instructin us all on drive-by PDing. John K. has his new 6BR shooting very good just needs better glass for it(coming soon).. Sorry to go on but still excited over the day's shooting, probably best ever.:)
Doc
Ps- forgot to mention BD bought us all lunch at the country store in Dixon Springs =I had a livercheese sandwhich(food ofthe Gods):D :D thanks BD

Birdog, maybe I will venture down that way some weekend and check this out if I am invited. Sounds like I had better come as an "observer" only as I don't want to be embarassed by you guys from big Orange country. I can wear Doc's Hat so y'all won't be offended. Went to Pigeon Forge last weekend and wore the Orange hat the whole time; felt like a native.

JR, you funny!!! come over next sunday!

JR, I would be honored to have you visit the Birddog range and shooting sports complex, massage parlor, and casino. we had a large time yesterday, wonderful conversation, and bull, great br's, more bull, lunch, bull sessions, and shooting demonstrations by our own Doc Stone. Next sunday Nurse GOOOOODBODY is scheduled to make an appearance. Yesterday my two daughters, still home on xmas break, came by to say hello to everyone and some of the new shooters thought they were ms. goodbody. I think she will be attending next sunday's shoot.
