I had bought my 6.5 year old granddaughter Lillie a pink cricket rifle for her for Christmas 2 years ago and it was finally time for her to learn how to shoot today. We went out back and I gave her a brief safety lesson and instructions on how to load, aim and shoot. She managed to "kill" 7 diet coke cans in 8 shots. We were using CB longs at a distance of about 5 yards and they really made the cans pop. She was excited about it and said she wants to shoot the next time she comes to visit.

Well done grandpa! Reactive targets are a great way to start. Knocking over a can or breaking a clay provides positive reinforcement and excitement.
