New way to record calling sounds using a BUSlink MP3 player.

I was fiddling around with the very first MP3 player I got and discovered that it will record voice at different quality levels. Well, I set it at the highest quality and went outside last night to make some recordings. The idea was to reduce background noise and eliminate room echo. I was using the E.L.K. Power Howler and made some coyote howls. They really sound good on the computer speakers after I edited out the best sounding howls.

Sometime a single howl after a rabbit scream series will get a coyote that is hanging up out of sight to commit and come all the way in. I have added two new single howls to my web page in MP3 format.

Those are some excellent sounding howls. Good Job. If'n I knew how to record 'em I'd send you some of mine done with a modified reed Tally Ho.

Thanks Al, Your sounds are my electronic arsenal, getting pretty good on hand calls, but dont like them getting so close,they bust me in these hoops and hollers.

What brand was that MP3?

It is a BUSlink 256MB MP3 player with a voice recorder built in. It is an older model, maybe 3 years old. I looked at the BUSlink web site and they don't even list it. eBay didn't have one when I searched. I don't think the new ones have the higher quality recording settings. The way to change the recording quality was not even listed in the tiny manual. I just found it by fiddling around with the different mode settings.

I was curious because I had purchased the Trio model and didn't know if it was a hidden feature within that one or not.

I wanted to record some howls, and was trying to figure out how to go about it. I'll have to figure out something else ... just hoping to have what it took in the here and now.

Always good to see you on board Al. About the end of Jan I was in NY for the Twin Tiers fox and coyote hunt. Had fun but conditions weren't the best. Had to leave a day early but enjoyed the hunt and the guys I met. While there we were hunting a game farm and I was with Steve from FOXPRO callers. He took the opportunity to grab some bird calls from some Chukars, quail, etc. It was about -2F with strong winds at some points and it was COLD to the bone! Steve was wearing his bunny boots and a fur hat from AK! hahaha, I had a good chuckle watching him record and I was filming him as he recorded. He will KILL me for this post but it was too good to pass up! Here is steve in action...

One last little treat is a fox I filmed in my back yard some time ago. Actually got one to sit around 3am while I had a white light on him. VERY VERY odd but he was just listening to my FOXPRO a few seconds before this.
