T'was the night before Christmas, and all thru the house,
Not a varmint was stirring, not even a mouse!
GGVGers all tucked in their beds,
With visions of RIFLES n SCOPES in their heads!
Ami in her kerchief and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a little cat nap.
When up on the roof there rose such a clatter!
Why it was ol' Don in a loin cloth,
Climbing up on a ladder!!
He was sweating and carrying a bag on his shoulder
(But, whatever was in there was beginning to molder!)
I said, "Get down from there, and think about your heart!"
He shouted something back - something about me being an old phardt!)
I could tell by his grin he was up to no good,
(I could see his beady eyes, glistening from under his hood!)
He got to the roof and waddled over to the chimney
"He's up to no good!” said something within me...
I ran to the stairway, something I just knew
To the fireplace to the fireplace!
Quick, close the flu!
But, I was too late to deal with the matter
Ol' Don had arrived with a grunt and a clatter.
I froze on the staircase, I stood there flat...
(Just imagine - soot, hat, and loin cloth...
And a poke on his back!)
He rummaged his bag for something rank,
Pulled out an old Savage, my how it stank!
A box of V-max he put on the chair,
And some powder and patches for me to find there.
I was surprised by the stuff the ol Rat had,
Why he's not so mean, he ain't even bad.
He turned and looked at me and in a wink of an eye,
He vanished - he was gone, not even a goodbye!
I opened my eyes...It was a dream I just had!!
My heart was still racing, so I got out of bed.
I laughed at myself, to the kitchen I'd slog,
To start the coffee and have some eggnog.
What a dream I just had, how silly of me -
To think ol' Don would come visit me.
I laughed some more to think of that,
A once fat ol man, black with soot and wearing a hat.
I was still chuckling, amused at myself,
sippin my coffee when I looked at the shelf...
There was some V-max, some patches and things!
My eyes flew wide open my ears began to ring.
Someone had been there, someone with a kind heart,
(Someone, no doubt, a rascally ol phardt!)
I shook my head, perched on the chair so soft,
When my eyes fell upon it - ol' Don's loin cloth!
Once again I was startled, jump starting my heart,
Why is was the ol Rat, that silly ol' phardt!!
Then in the distance I heard a faint call
"Merry Christmas you varmints! Happy New Year to all!"
