Well, the story is almost Told=

Well PD Safari 2010 Saga has almost reached an end =
Usually the last day (on Friday) of our Safari
finds the Long Range Boys under the shade (yeah right)
( 100+°F) of the abandonded camp site , as GreyFox and his Mafia
has left camp one day before our Troop leaves=
so this leaves the camp site empty for our Friday afternoon
Barrage of 1000 + yarders=

Birdog is our " leader of our Pack" Alpha Dog in the 1.000yd
Persuit== He knows the drop charts for his gun from memory=
He coaches Ole VolDoc and John K.=
He will spot for us anytime instead of shootin' himself=

Happiness is an almost empty Box of 87 grainers (VMAX) of course=

VolDoc has received a lot of questions 'bout 87's to 1,000 yds=
yes they'll getRdone=
105 Horn AMx's are better though launched at 3.000 fps=

Talk 'bout attention to detail=
look closely at John K. loading data=
now that's good record keepin'=

We shot and gave them 1,000 yd Dogs our best try but the wind and heat
was just too much for us to connect as we usually do=
John K. led the pack with 4 kills confirmed over 1,000=
Birdog with 2 or 3 over 1.000yds=
and Ole VolDoc with one 976 yarder confirmed=
or maybe that was 97.6 yards=
VolDoc just can't remember=

As we left our little piece of PD Heaven one last time for 2010=
the prairie has a unique beauty of its own=

Cast of Characters and Credits to follow=
thanks for tuning in and advise if'n ya enjoyed or not=

Doc, if that dentist stuff don't work out for you, you just might have a future in making documentaries. I've thoroughly enjoyed each and every installment. One could say I've vicariously been on a pdog safari thanks to all you guys that made this trip. You brought back memories of Colorado Deer Hunts from days gone by.

Thanx a bunch.

KY Fisherman= we all luv him but can't figure out
what this means=

The Welcome Home

The Birdog was the first to get home (about 3AM) His best friend "Clementine" was glad to see him...

Next to arrive Home (about 430AM) was the Voldoc....met by his best Buddy "Charlie"

I was the last to arrive home, as I had to drive 2 more hours from Celina Tenn to Pulaski Co. KY. where I was Welcomed Home????????? by "The Bouncer."

Thanks for a great trip guys.....every one just gets better for me. I hope we are all alive and well enought to have a Prairie Dog Safari 2011.....I already have my new Savage .204 tuned up and ready to rock. Heck, I'm ready to go back right now. JRC

From PD Safarri '09

This little doggie came back from Holly with us in a ice box.
We set up one night at dusk shooting with the wind which had
settled down a little. After I found my last click of elevation I
was still a little short. But the Nightforce double D reticle has
a post under the dot. The top of the post was perfect. I sat
the dog on top of the post and was just left. The next shot was
just right. Next just left. I told JR and Doc that I was shooting a
shot gun pattern and eventually I would land one in the middle.
On the 5 th shot the 115's put him down. We had to take the
Tahoe out to the dog and shoot the laser rangefinder back in two
readings. Final range====1400 yd (1394)

He was standing when I shot him and when he went down he did'n
move. I knew he was dead when another dog ran over and smelled
him

Rookie Trip for Ole VolDoc

The year was 2006 =Central Nebraska
and the Ole Birdog baptised me in the looooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooong Range Game and here's the proof=
Both of us killed at 500 yds plus=
Ole VolDoc was shootin' a Cooper 6.5-284

and Birdog was shootin' a 6 Remy 40BRX=

think that was enough firepower?????=
Ansley Nebraska before poisoning =
we had small towns but they had never been shot=
"Best of Times" back in "The Day"=

See the windmill in the background
look closely and you can see our benches,
we shot from=

That' VolDoc's Dog BD is holding in his right hand=
pencil hole in and out Berger 142's=
BD's dog in his left hand Nosler BT's=
And please don't send me a PM detailing the
hazards of handling PD's=
If you are a Dentist or a Pharmacist (we already know)=:D

Good memories=

Well, I'll be danged!

I thought we were the only ones around that were crazy enough to have a prairie dog mount! Julie bagged this one at 532 yards with her Howa .223 shooting Winchester white box 45 gr HP. The bullet struck the left shoulder and was so out-of-steam it didn't exit. Chief and Ruger weren't too sure about Mr. P Dog when he first showed up.

Doc's first trip, And the rest is History....

Notice the difference difference in damage between 87 V-max
and 142 gr match bullets. 87's were from a 6mm Rem. cal and
a 40 X-KS (Kelvar Stock) and the 142's were from Doc's
6.5 x 284 Cooper. Doc was all black, blue, and purple from
shooting that thing 100 times in a day.
He had a 6mm BR but did not believe in it. Didn't think it was
enough gun in the wind. He offered it to me at a good price
after the first day's shooting. I decided on the last day of shooting
that I would try it and take it if it shot good. Doc had not pulled it
out since the first day. The wind wasn't too bad that last evening
and I told him to let me try it out.
I believe I hit 5 or 6 dogs without a miss and Doc said maybe he
should keep it. The rest is history. Doc switche over and became
a 6 BR, Dasher, PPC MONSTER. Iron Man and Top Gun two years
running now.

Shots were from 500 yds.
