It just may be old age setting in, but I recall reading or hearing somewhere of some firm converting Rem 700 actions to work with a barrel nut as on the Savage. Does anyone have any info about this or am I really off base here. Thanks.

You are right, but not sure who is doing the conversion.

Pacnor

I have read from others that Pacnor will do this. The cost that I remember was an additional $50 the first time. After that, you supposedly could just order a barrel just like you do for Savage.

I have not checked their website lately.

PacNor makes the barrel nut. They're beautifully made things and much better looking than the Savage. I have a couple and they cost $50 apiece at the time. Anyone who does chambering could do a barrel. It's just a matter of it not having a shoulder.
