It depends on the animal, and on hard they're hunted. Years ago we all had spotlights mounted on our vehicles, like the highway patrol cruisers. Don't know how many miles we drove with the lights pointed out at a 45* angle, looking for eyeballs. In most cases the coyotes would just look at the light. We often shot at ranges from 300 to 400 yards...I shudder to think about it now, though you could see the entire coyote in the scope.
