-9° here in Upstate NY this morning, the wind is blowing at about 9mph with some gusts they say up to 23mph. The high temperature for today will be about 7°.

Another day on the road most of the day yesterday, today I am hoping to be able to work here at home. I really have no desire to be out and about today.

Have a Wonderful Day Everyone.

Morning

Good morning. -6 in Indy according to my know-it-all phone. Soon as I get in the truck it's gonna' tell me how far away the breakfast joint is and how long it will take me to get there. It knows way too much. One of these days I'm going to McDonalds just to mess with it.

Put another log on the fire.

morning all. -3 with chill at -15. 22 below over in town. Calling for a high of 31 today. Was nice yesterday too but just never got to 30.
Didn't go to town yesterday, didn't feel like it and the boss man took off before I could get a check to pay for the parts and I'm not going to pay out of my pocket!
Really didn't get anything done yesterday, chores then came home, fighting someone's crud. Not sure who to blame it on though.
Time to get going, have a good one and be careful and warm out there.
GOD BLESS. Dean

Good Morning from the last day at Trinity, it's 45 now with a high of 57 and possibility of rain. My daughter in Waseca texted last night that the furnace died, it's 25 below right now. She thought they would be ok till the repairman got there this morning.

All our work projects are wrapped up so we are headed back to Bartonville and sponge off the kids for a few weeks. Not much work to do there so life should be easy. I need to find a gunshow in the area, just for entertainment, of course.

Hope everyone has a warmer and blessed day,
Ken

good morning varmints. It's -1º here in southcentral PA, calm with no wind. Actually feels better now than last night about 5PM with a 20 mph wind and 13º. I got a new (used) tonneau cover off Craigslist and had to remove the old and install the new outside. Didn't take long thank goodness. Repairman said our new heat pump was fine and dandy. Can't explain the 50% increase in electric consumption though. We'll burn more wood and propane from now on. Oh, and coal. I got the fire switched over from wood to coal about 9PM last night and wow, what a difference in the house. I was also up caulking log joints at 10:30 last night next to my bed. Felt a draft...Hell no wonder! Freakin' log house is leaking like a sieve. Guess I need to go around and look for bad spots and re-caulk the entire thing, inside and out? NEVER buy a LOG HOUSE!

Well, I reckon I should get busy? Sure is lots to do. Guess that's a good thing? Better get moving. Have a good one!

Charlie

PS - Dean, Shane's the one that probably passed the bug along.:D

Morning Gents! Its 20º here. The wind and humidity make it feel like its 10º. Leaving in a little while to take the Wife, her sister and my Mom up to the lake at Heber Springs to see the Swans. Probably eat lunch someplace before we come home. Wish me Luck, my SIL can be a PITA sometimes! Should be a fun trip if her bubble stays between the lines!

Good morning everyone -6° here right now...supposed to go to 19 I think. that will feel like a heat wave. The farmer that rents my dad's property had a cow die right behind my buddies house and said coyotes were on it already. Said he can't get to drag it up to the road until the temp comes up a bit. I pulled in to his driveway yesterday about5:30 and seen a coyote trotting across the field. I didn't have time to get out and get a shot before he went out of sight because of a hill.

Dump truck is here so I'll get started on it today and see if I can get the steel supplier to bend the plate I need to replace the rusted junk.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Good morning, GoGo. It's 6 in Louisville and the 15-20 mph winds have moved east of us, apparently. Makes a big difference. Going to 25 today, then tonight's low is only 24. Then we have highs in the 50s and 60s for five days straight, starting Saturday. Incredible!

Schools are closed again here today due to the cold. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel tomorrow, too, "just because." Our governor got in some hot water Tuesday afternoon after calling the Jefferson County school admins a bunch of pansies for calling off school because it was gonna be cold. We did get about 2" of snow Wednesday morning, so buses might have had to slow down on a few routes. Therefore, because a small percentage might have to get mom or dad to take them to school, we just shut down the whole system. Sounds to me like the teachers union is calling the shots, which doesn't surprise me one whit.

Charlie, I'm all confused about that house of yours. I thought it was an older home because you talk about the wood-burning furnace, which I think is in the basement, right? But now you talk about wind seeping between the logs, which means whole-log exterior walls. They haven't built log houses like that here in Kentucky since Abraham Lincoln was a pup. Sounds to me like you need to invite Judy Brown to come visit for about a week. She'll get those logs caulked in no time and might even bring the mud all the way from the damcowfarm. :D

That's about it from the big city of Louisville. Y'all have a good'n and be safe out there. I've gotta go make sure my shorts and tank tops are ready for the tropical weather that's coming.

Great morning all,

I almost feel guilty telling y'all it is 56° with scattered clouds here in the trai!erhood. As the sun comes up, we should get into the mid 70's later. A check of the remote thermostat at the Halfway House shows -11° outside with a set 50° inside.

Big fun on the trip over & around the mountain. The damncow farmer would have enjoyed the burgers at the Lagurta Station. Saw a place in the way to go pick up brass. I suppose I should do that today.

Some brass trimming should get done on the tail gate too.

Mike,

Our house was built in 1991. New log construction. It should be caulked between the logs when they set them, but drying/checking of the logs causes leaks. You really don't notice until it's REAL cold, like now! I could actually see the dust bunnies moving about from the draft! Log homes look nice, and supposedly their "R value" is superior to stick built, but they require a LOT of up-keep!

I'm all in favor of the coming warming weather, but
its slightly early. Normally in Ky this doesnt occur
until the middle of month if its on schedule. Sometimes
it can be a week long or as little as a couple of days.
Maybe the early one is just a bonus. BTW Charlie
ya'll have a beautiful home. I always wanted a log
house when I was younger. It is too late for that fantasy
now. Ya'll have a goodun. LDS

Well, it's -13 now, UP from -22 over nite. Gonna be in the 50s within a week!

When I put our German Shepard out to do his business, it was less than a minute before he was holding first a fore paw and then rear paw in tern, off the ice on the driveway. Obviously, the biting cold was hurting the pads of his paws. Gotta wonder how coyotes and huskies, etc. deal with it?

I know I don't deal with it unless I have to either! (Stayed inside for this arctic vortex, the last couple days. Looking for balmy single digits later.

AS I MENTIONED B-4, I've observed around here that on mornings after a cold snap, it is a good plan to be watchful for coyote activity in broad daylight. Paused while loading my work truck one frosty morning after to drop a coyote with a 65gn V-Max form my 6BR. He was sniffing around the yard perimeter fence as the sun rose.

Good late morning

30 headed to 54ish.
I am off Thursdays and Fridays. So I’ll dink around the house today. Tomorrow I am running the RV an hr south to have it gone thru. It has an electrical gremlin that I can’t nail down. This is a Cummins repair shop that has an RV repair shop. My Monaco Dynasty was built just down the road and some of the staff use to work there. They really know these coaches.
Charlie, I built the stairs and did the finish work in a scribe fit log home once. I thought I really wanted one till then. They are major cool but I saw where they are a major dust catcher also, and take a lot on maintenance.
Beautiful home you have there. Don’t get me wrong I like them, just don’t want to maintain one.😁

Late morning check in for me as usual gang! 12 headed to 32 today, 40's tomorrow, 60 by Sunday! Got to mail a package today, stop by a few other places, then get back home and pack for hospital stay after surgery tomorrow, will be there 4-6 days, then hopefully home to our local hospital for a week or two to regain some strength and balance. I am still anemic from the last surgery, so it is a slow go, don't bounce back like I used to.
