Nice rile, I have its twin with a mint bore. It is most likely a 1873 Model, made in 1884, I would bet. I have 3 originals and one repop and am fairly well versed. I ignorantly thought them a lower quality rifle than a Rolling block, or Sharps. When I got into some good quality rifles, I found out different, The buffinton sight is the best on the Trapdoor. I have read some articles, by guys who really worked with the Trapdoor, and they were competitive out to 1000yds, and really shined out to 800 yds. I have shot mine with great accuracy, out to 500yds, with smokeless powder. The guys over at CastBoolits.com clued me into some safe, loads, that duplicate the velocity of the compressed black powder loads with a 300-350gr slug, with little recoil. Pm me for more info.
