I am cleaning a Winchester rifle for a friend. I am trying to identify it and find a value. The ser# 1064XXX says it is a model 1894 built in 1929, but the barrel is stamped: -MODEL 94-30-30 WIN- . The 94 label was not used until 1940 from the info I have found. Is there a way to date the barrel? The gun appears to have been reblued sometime in the past but there is no sign of any rust pitting. The barrel is a deeper blue/black and the metal finish doesn't match the other parts. Stock appears to be original and has the steel cresent butt plate. It is tight as a new 94.

Do you feel this gun should be put away and cherished or taken afield and used? What value should be proper for an altered 1894?

Thank you.
